walking into insect land. I refuse. My family could never make me
do it and I’m not going to start now. Yes, the outdoors looks
pretty but if all you want is to see it, then look on the Internet
for pictures. There’s no need for me to subject myself to that sort
of torture. Peeing outside? Madness! And even if I could get over
the insects that outside are as big as my hand and the lack of
sanitation, there are the wild animals. I’m too young to be some
predators main course.”
    He smirked,
“You already are one love and I intend to take a bite out of you
very soon.”
    “ Will you stop
that?” she snapped. “You aren’t a werewolf. What is it with you and
my family? They don’t exist, so you need to stop pretending you are
one and they need to stop trying to hunt down creatures that aren’t
real.”
    “ Chloe, I can’t
change what I am and I’m a werewolf, I’m not
pretending.”
    “ Oh, ok I
understand. As you’re a werewolf could you just leave a message for
the Easter bunny and tooth fairy for me? You must know each other
after all.”
    “ The Easter
bunny and tooth fairy aren’t real.”
    “ They’re about
as real as werewolves are. If you’re so sure that you’re a werewolf
then why don’t you show me?” she taunted.
    “ I don’t want
to scare you Chloe.”
    “ Well I’m not
going to believe you until I see concrete evidence. So if it
wouldn’t be too much trouble, just let the subject
drop.”
    “ You seem to
have come out of your shell,” Ryan remarked casually. “I don’t
think you would have scolded me like that before you went to
sleep.”
    “ If you’re
going to kill me then there’s no point in me being agreeable.
Besides, you haven’t hurt me just yet and I’m thinking that if you
actually have to deal with the real me and not whatever picture
perfect image you have created in your head you’ll be willing to
let me go fairly soon.”
    “ I’m never
going to let you go Chloe, never. It doesn’t matter what you do or
say, we’re going to be together forever.” He turned from her to
stare directly out of the window. The steering wheel bent slightly
under the force of his grip. While he liked his mate’s fiery
personality, he loathed the idea that she was doing everything in
her power to escape him. I hope she
understands soon, I really do. I can’t let her leave me, I
can’t.

Chapter
Six

    Chloe’s
stomach growled loudly for what seemed like the thousandth time and
her face once again flushed red with embarrassment. She held her
hand over it, willing it to be quiet but her wishes were once again
denied. The grumble ricocheted through the small space of the car
and this time was swiftly followed by Ryan’s low growl.
    “ You’re
hungry.” He stated it with the same certainty he said everything
else.
    She rolled
her eyes increasingly agitated with his attitude but kept her face
deliberately hidden from him. “I’m fine.” Her stomach instantly
made a liar of her, gurgling, as it demanded food.
    Why she
insisted on lying about this Ryan couldn’t understand. Even if he
couldn’t hear her stomach loudly making its demands he would still
have known. He had now spent hours in close proximity to her, he
could tell what was normal for her body and what wasn’t just as
easily as he could as he could for himself. Her hunger was gnawing
at him, he could feel her stomach clenching, eating away at itself,
as it continued to remain empty. “Chloe, I can feel that you’re
hungry, why are you lying about it?”
    “ I don’t want
to eat, I’m fine.”
    “ No, you’re
not. This isn’t healthy. You need to eat. Don’t tell me…you’re not
on a,” he swallowed hard, “a diet?”
    She hadn’t
thought it possible, but her face became even redder. “And what if
I am?”
    “ Why would you
need to be on a diet? You’re perfect.”
    He said the
words with such conviction that for a moment she was tempted to
believe him but a lifetime of doubts meant
