else. Richard was no expert in women and he
needed help with this one.
    “ What’s
wrong?”
    “ Your
mother is coming.”
    Richard
was a grown man. Responsible for an empire and with billions of
dollars under his belt, he still couldn’t get his mother to act
like anything less than an ice queen. It only took a second of his
time to glance around at the pending storm called Lena, and when he
looked around to reassure Kimberly that all would be well, he barely
caught the flash of her heeled sandals as she closed her limo door.
She waved goodbye and mouthed, “See you tomorrow,” just
before ordering her driver to take her home. Damn it!
    Lena
approached his side as he glared at the leaving Limo in annoyance. As
usual, she had words of wisdom to leave with her son. “Richard,
it would do you well to remember that all are created equal, but some
more equal than others.”
    The
animal farm reference was dropped, Richard’s mother stepped
into her chauffeur driven stretch. As the black driver closed the
door and walked around to his side, Lena rolled up her window and
disappeared down the driveway.

Chapter 5
    It
didn’t seem that she would get to bed anytime soon. It was well
after two am and the sandman had neglected to make his usual visit.
The silk scarf on her head seemed to be creating extra heat and with
a snap of Kimberly’s wrist her head was free of the colorful
cloth.
    Her
boss was not the type of man she dated and if his mother was any
indication, Richard was only nice on the surface. There was too much
hardship in her past to get caught up with a man who was obviously
raised with prejudices deeper rooted than he may have cared to admit.
    Was
she against interracial relationships? No, but she wasn’t a
prime candidate for such a union. In college, Phil had approached her
and it didn’t turn out well. His family was well-to-do, but not
overly wealthy. Uncertain if it was poor parenting or just a fetish,
he turned their brief friendship into a spectacle among his pals. The
size of her ass and the other things unique to her culture and her
race, all made for the obsessive sexual obsession Phil had for her.
They never had sex, much to his disappointment, and after he tried to
force her, she had no choice but to display her other side. Sassy and
uppity were the final words he used to describe her before she
connected her fist with his jaw and that was the end of white Phil
and black Kimberly as an item.
    *****
    The
Hummers engine died after Richard killed it. Driving around aimlessly
for hours did nothing to clear his head. Overflowing with all manner
of sexual thoughts, he needed to cool off. Richard found himself
driving past a nightclub, observing the form of the women there. He
had never taken time to inspect the physique of the black woman. It
definitely caught his attention now.
    Lena
was never overly vocal in her views on race, but then again, she
didn’t need to be. Lena hired only back maids and insisted on
only ethnic drivers. The gardener was Hispanic and as Tabletop
industries grew so did her aloof nature.
    There
was a time in Golden Gates Private School when an African gentleman
sought to enroll his daughter into their curriculum. A manipulative
Mrs. Damask used her weight on the school board to have the
application rejected. The man’s net worth was times that of the
Damask family, but that made no difference. The entire auditorium
that year was refurbished compliments of Tabletop industries.
    Kimberly’s
palm felt right in his. It was the first time in ages that he had
touched a woman and felt the electricity that had passed through
their hand hold. Her lips were so full. Richard wondered what it
would be like to taste them. As he caught his eyes in the rear view
mirror, he cursed himself for being so rusty at the dating game that
he couldn’t make a simple choice because color may stand in the
way. Closing the door, he decided that this matter would not be
solved tonight and stumbled through
