about
seeing everyone, she had this excitement building inside of her to see Nico . It felt like months since she had seen him, instead
of the couple of weeks it had actually been.
“School’s good?” her dad asked, and she saw him look
at her through the corner of her eyes.
“It is.” She smiled at him. “Finished exams, and
looking forward to next semester since I’m taking some classes that are
actually interesting.”
He chuckled. “Glad you’re enjoying yourself. You
scared of almost being done and working with us?”
She shrugged. “Not really. I’m ready for it to be
over with. I’ve been watching Stinger and Mom doing the books, just so I can
see how they do it.”
“I’m glad you decided to stay with the club.” He
reached out and placed his much bigger hand over hers. He held her hand the
whole way back to the house, and when they pulled into her childhood home’s
driveway she smiled. Odin was already at the house, and his truck sat in the
driveway closest to the door. She also saw her mom through the kitchen window,
and by the way she was moving her mouth and dancing, Alexis knew she was
listening to music. Yeah, her mother used to be a stripper. Not
the best profession, but Darra wasn’t ashamed of what
she had done. She had told Alexis as much, and she loved her mom more
for having to do things a less strong woman wouldn’t have been able to
accomplish. She’d had to support herself, and she’d found a way to do it.
Alexis glanced at her father and smiled. Well, her mom had been a stripper
until her dad had come into the picture. Then Brick had set things straight.
Alexis smiled again at that thought, because when her mom had finally sat down
and told her how she and her father had met, Alexis hadn’t been surprised at
the alpha-ness that was her dad. A shifter male was territorial and possessive
to the nth degree.
Her dad pulled the vehicle beside Odin’s, and they
climbed out. Before she could grab her bag Brick grabbed her suitcase and then
wrapped his arm around her shoulder. “I’m glad you’re home, baby girl.”
She leaned her head against his shoulder and smiled. “Me, too, Dad.”
The front door was already opened when they walked
up the porch steps, and her mother stood there with a huge smile on her face.
Even in her forties her mom was beautiful, with a killer body, curves that
Alexis was proud to say she’d inherited, and long blonde hair that Brick refused
to let her cut.
“Hey,” her mom said and hugged her tight. It was
freezing outside, but there wasn’t any snow on the ground, despite Christmas
being only two weeks away.
Alexis stepped inside, and turned her head to look
at Odin, who sat in the oversized leather recliner. His feet were up, his Beats
headphones over his head, and his attention on a medical journal. How he
focused on more than one thing like that was beyond her. She moved over to him,
but he was so engrossed in the magazine and his music that he didn’t even
realized that she was in the house. His dark hair was the same shade as hers
and their father’s, but he had their mom’s blue eyes. Odin was smart, going to
college to be a doctor, and wanting to stay away from the club life. It might
not be for him, especially because he wanted to be a physician and all, but he
also loved the MC and the guys in it. It was hard walking away from a “family
business” like the club, but she was thankful they had parents that supported
whatever they decided to do.
“So, lots to do today,” her mom yelled from the
kitchen. The music that was playing was totally old school, but Alexis had
listened to her mom play it repeatedly while growing up. Alexis ruffled Odin’s
hair and smiled down at him when he tipped his head back.
“Hey,” Odin said, pulled his headphones off, and
grinned. He was her “little” brother, and only a year younger, but already as
big as their father.
“You two come in here and help with the prep work.”
Their mom
