“This way, when we go into the next store, there won’t be any arguments.”
“Which store would that be? We’ve already been in Victoria’s Secret, and you bought two or three bralette sets to go with each outfit.”
“As much as I like the stuff from Victoria’s Secret, I love the stuff from Frederick’s better.”
    “Frederick’s?”
“Yeah, Frederick’s of Hollywood. I’m sure you’ve heard of it.”
There’s that grin again. “Of course I’ve heard of it. I’m just too old to shop at that store now.”
“Bull shit, and we’re going even if I have to throw you over my shoulder. Don’t tempt me ‘cause I will.”
Rolling her eyes, she caved in and followed him without another word. I hope he doesn’t pick out anything tacky, ‘cause I just won’t wear it. And why do we need sexy lingerie anyway? It only stays on for a few seconds and then ends up on the floor.
“Don’t worry. I won’t pick out anything tacky. I did alright with the other stuff. Right?”
Fuck. How does he read my mind? “Okay, okay. I didn’t say anything.” Defensively, Sydney added, “I just don’t get the big deal.”
“Baby, it’s not a big deal. It’s like having a present at Christmas. It gives me something to unwrap. I already love the gift that will be in it and the anticipation of unwrapping that gift makes it even better. I love unwrapping presents.”
Did he just say he loves me? No. Yes, I‘m the gift, and he said he loves the gift. I heard him say it. But did he mean it? You’re doing it again, clouding you head with bull shit that doesn’t matter. Just fucking enjoy him. She shook her head to clear her thoughts and realized Marcus was staring at her. “What?”
“Nothing, you just had that look like you were in deep thought again. You know you can talk to me about anything. I won’t judge.”
“You need to stop reading my mind. It’s really starting to freak me out. Do you have some kinda paranormal powers?
“Can we do Frederick’s already so we can get lunch?” he asked, ignoring the question.
Standing in the doorway of Frederick’s, Sydney looked up as if to ask God for help.
“God can’t help you with this. That’s why I’m here. Come on.” Marcus tugged her into the store.
Marcus surveyed the racks. Sydney waited by the fitting room. After a few minutes Marcus showed up with a few things in his arms. There was some black strappy number that looked like it was pleather, plastic and leather. It would barely cover her nipples. He also carried a red see-through something-or-other that left nothing to the imagination, a pink and black satin two piece pajama set, and a white baby doll nightie.
“I’m not even trying on this pleather thing or this red one.” Sydney picked them from his arms and tossed them to the side. “I’ll try these,” she said, grabbing what was left in his arms.
“Let me know if you need any help,” he replied, smiling ear to ear.
“Not funny, Mr. Matthews. You stay put,” she instructed, entering the fitting room. First, she tried on the white baby doll nightgown. It was cute, cut in a flyaway style that tied in the back with a bow at the bodice. The second one was bubble gum pink satin with black lace. It consisted of shorts and a cami. The shorts fit fine, but she was having trouble lacing up the top.
Sydney popped her head out of the fitting room to see if there was a sales girl around to help her. Of course, the only person around was Marcus, sitting patiently while waiting for her to finish.
“Marcus, could you help me out a second?” Sydney tried to keep a straight face. She knew he would think this was a set up.
    “Really? Are you kidding me?”
“No, really. I can’t fix the strings to tie this.” Before she finished her sentence, he was standing behind her in the fitting room.
He had every intention of just tying up the back and getting out. His first mistake was looking down at her ass in those satin shorts, and he
