headed down the mountain, turning on the headlights halfway down. âAnother clean escape,â Colton said, when he pulled onto the road that led into town.
âAnother?â
Hunter asked from the front seat.
âWe mightâve done this once before,â Will said. âThe night of Nolanâs party.â
Laughing, Hunter said, âYou got away with that one. I had no idea, but then again, I had no good reason to sneak back to town. And now I do.â
âNow you do,â Will said.
They dropped Hunter off first.
âTry not to scare the hell out of Megan,â Colton said.
âI told her Iâd be home if I could get away, so she wonât be surprised to see me.â
âThatâs premeditated,â Will said. âA whole other level of p-whipped.â
âSay what you will,â Hunter said. âIâm happy to plead guilty. See you boys tomorrow.â
âDonât be late,â Will said.
âWhen am I ever late?â Hunter shut the door before they could pounce on that easy opening. Heâd broken his on-time record repeatedly since he got together with Megan, even coming in late to work several times, which had never happened before.
They waited until he disappeared inside his dark house before they continued on through Butler to Willâs house five miles outside of town. The cabin was completely dark when they pulled up outside.
âI donât want the dogs to bark, so letâs sneak in through the mudroom.â
They went around the back of the cabin where Will used his key in the door that heâd instructed Cameron to keep locked when she was home alone. Before sheâd lived here with him, heâd never locked his doors. Now that he had someone so precious to protect, his doors were always locked.
Trevor raised his head off his dog bed, saw Will, and thankfully went right back to sleep.
âSee you in the A.M .,â Colton whispered as he went to the ladder to the loft where his fiancée was sleeping.
âThanks for taking the dare,â Will said.
âLike I had any choice.â
Will was still smiling when he went into the bedroom and slipped into the adjoining bathroom where he stripped out of his clothes and brushed his teeth. Standing next to the bed, he could see Cameron sleeping on his side, hugging his pillow. Though he hated to disturb her sleep before their big day, he crawled in next to her and wrapped his arms around her.
She murmured in her sleep, which he took as an opportunity to kiss her. With only the faint light of the moon shining into the room, he saw her eyes fly open when she came to. âWhatâre you doing here?â she asked breathlessly.
âI missed you.â
âItâs bad luck to see me before the wedding.â
âIâm not looking.â
âYes, you are!â
âYou want me to go?â
âDonât you dare.â
Will laughed. âA dare is what brought me here.â
âWhat do you mean?â
âI dared Colton to bring me home because Iâd been drinking and he hadnât. Abbotts risk massive ridicule if they donât take a dare, so I pulled out the big guns to bend him to my will.â
Laughter from the loft drifted into their room. âDoesnât sound like you had to twist his arm.â
âNot really. Hunter came with us, too. We dropped him off at home.â
âYou guys are funny. You canât take one night away from your women.â
âI canât speak for them, of course, but Iâm madly in love with my woman, and one night away from her felt like forever.â
Cameron snuggled up to him. âFor me, too. It was so weird to go to bed without you.â
âYouâve got way too many clothes on. What is all this?â He pulled and tugged at the T-shirt and moose pajama pants sheâd worn to bed.
âStop,â she said, laughing. âItâs cold and I didnât
