matter. Isabel was flabbergasted at how all held their breaths after Luke’s words. He did not raise his voice nor get up from his seat yet they reacted as though he had flipped the table upside down. Even Linda who was always prepared for a smart comeback shut her mouth and looked down at her plate.
Isabel lightly cleared her throat after a full minute of excruciating silence. “Well I uhh… I better go help Ginger prepare for the auction.” All the men rose as she did. She left the table without another word heading towards the back door when Luke caught up with her. “Did I upset you?”
Her question caught him off guard. “Upset me? Why would you assume that?”
“Because I was rude to your date and caused a scene at your table.” She said through lowered lashes. Her breathing was uneven. Though she hadn’t done anything intentionally she felt an extreme load of guilt.
He gently laughed feeling relieved he was able to put aside his anger. “It’s not your fault. Magda’s heard and deserved worse from Linda. And as far as Nate goes I’m sorry he made you feel uncomfortable. I’m more disappointed your first event with us is not going how I expected it to.”
“No I’m having a great time Luke. And that’s sweet of you to care.” She smiled. What was it about this man that melted her heart so much? He was utterly wonderful.
“And try to keep away from Nate he tends to get too comfortable when given a little room. We do business with his grandfather but since he’s too old to appear at these functions he sends his juvenile grandson instead.”
He kept searching her brown eyes. She wondered if there was more he wanted to say but he didn’t continue. He left back to their table. Isabel helped Ginger complete the auction and announced she would soon be heading home. She avoided returning to the table as much as possible staying more behind the scenes with Ginger. She wanted to leave to avoid seeing if Luke left with Magda for the remainder of the evening. Luke walked her to valet and waited until her car arrived. She wondered if he thought Nate might follow her out and was silently grateful he was there to ensure this didn’t happen. She said good night and couldn’t wait until Monday morning to see him again.

Every September B. Pentagon held an annual beach bonfire inviting all their local clients. It was Luke’s way of bidding farewell to summer and hyping up his staff for the upcoming holiday projects. With the joyous season around the corner it was going to be a demanding term for everyone. It had been one hell of a profitable year for B. Pentagon and Luke would see to it that the year ended with a big bang.
Isabel arrived early to t he beach to help Ginger set up before their guests arrived. Living beach front had its bonuses since she was a walking distance away. She took in a deep breath filling her lungs with the salty sea air. She was in paradise. She recalled her second day in town meeting Luke on this same beach and smiled to herself how a brief encounter with a gorgeous stranger had transformed her life immensely. A few hours later she was surrounded by their San Diego executive staff along with multiple clients. Some enjoyed surfing, others lay around on the sand and Luke was engaged in what seemed a very intense volleyball match. The sun had started settling down as Isabel joined others around the fire enjoying a nice glass of Merlot. Not surprised that Luke would provide only the best of wines for his clients. God bless San Diego’s private beaches that legally allowed visitors to indulge in beer and wine.
Isabel listened quietly as a few carried a casual conversation but occasionally she caught herself more interested in the volleyball game. Especially since Luke had stripped down to just swim shorts that sat dangerously low on his hips, revealing that well defined v-line no sane
