    Andreas didn’t know what to do. He might literally be damned if he did, and damned if he did not. He looked over at the door, at its deadbolt firmly in place, then pleaded in return, ‘You tell me. Please. I cannot decide this for you.’
    Eva, head turned again, cried, ‘I do not want to die like this!’ Then she looked at Andreas again. ‘Please. But do it with love.’
    Andreas nodded. He felt like a dam had just burst inside him but he tried to stay calm for Eva’s sake, doing everything in his power to hold back the flood. He leaned down again and kissed her, gently at first. But it deepened quickly – too quickly. He couldn’t restrain himself any longer. He’d been wanting to do this for five years, but knew it was strictly forbidden, and now, for these brief moments, he had been given permission. In fact, he had more than permission.
