I talked to Gill.”
    “What happened? Are you
okay to tell me now?”
    “Yes. I think it’s a good
idea to tell you.” She took in a breath and again related what she had seen at
the gym that evening.
    When she was done, Daniel
asked, “What did Gill say about this?”
    “He said that there were
rumors about a chemistry lab assistant who was distributing (or selling) drugs
on campus. I know nothing about that, but since Gill was offered some steroids,
he thought these rumors might be true.”
    “Do you know who offered
him the steroids?”
    “He didn’t say. You know
him. He won’t point the finger at anyone until his life depends on it.”
    “Yeah, I know what you
mean. But, you, what are you going to do about this?”
    I was sitting on the edge
of the bed, watching Gaby’s expression on the screen.
    “I suppose I should go to
the police, but I really don’t know if that would serve any purpose. What I saw
could be nothing. I mean maybe Elise just bought something… I don’t know what
to think Daniel.”
    “Why don’t you sleep on
it and maybe talk about it again with Gill tomorrow.”
    “I can’t. He’s got this
basketball training camp all weekend. But I think I’ll wait until Monday and
see what happens in school before I do anything.”
    “Yeah, but maybe you
shouldn’t go to the gym or anywhere without having someone with you.”
    “Don’t you start scaring
me more than I am now, please?”
    “I don’t want to scare
you, Gaby, but these girls are not playing games. Since they saw you, they must
assume that you saw what they were doing, unless they think you were too dumb
to realize what was going on…”
    “Do you mean they would
want to eliminate me before I could talk to the police about what I saw?”
    “I think “eliminating”
you, is not their intention. They wouldn’t have the guts. But they could
certainly scare you into keeping your mouth shut.”
    “How would they do that?”
Gaby asked, obviously puzzled.
    “I don’t really know; but
look how they’ve treated Madison for years now. It was enough to drive her
completely batty, wasn’t it?”
    “That it was. You’re
right. And you think they could start doing the same with me?”
    “I don’t know. Maybe they
wouldn’t dare because of Gill. But if they tell the woman who sells the drugs
about you, that’s where the threat could come from.”
    The two of them fell
silent for a minute. Daniel turned to me. “What do you think Madison?”
    “I think Gaby should wait
until Monday, but then if she wants to go somewhere, since Gill’s not around
maybe I could go with her.”
    “Not on your life, you
don’t,” Gaby shouted. “You’re not going to risk being hassled on my account.
I’ll just stay home. There’s plenty of TV to watch and I’ll try keeping busy.
But I won’t go anywhere with either of you. If anything should happen to you
guys, I would never forgive myself.
    I lowered my gaze and smiled.
    “Okay, Gaby,” Daniel said
getting up, “Let’s get to bed.   And
please don’t hesitate to call on us anytime, okay?”
    I went to regain my seat.
Daniel watched us until I closed Skype and logged out.
    He then lifted me off my
chair, took me in his arms and led me to the bed.
    We lay down and talked
for a while. We were terribly exhausted but happy to be where we were – in each
other’s arms. We then took off the little clothes we had on and caressed one
another. It wasn’t long until we felt the urge to make love again. It was slow
