Bobby crazy? Bobby held an arm wide. “I can’t imagine the rent on this place.”
“Oh. Yeah. It’s a great area. I bought this place after the divorce.” He started for the kitchen for their beers. “I actually lived just one block up during college. After the divorce I decided I wanted to be back in the East Village. It’s always felt more like home.”
When he returned to the living room with two beers, he took a seat next to Bobby. Bobby looked a little put out and Jody couldn’t fathom why. Maybe the beer? “Do you not like pale ale? The bodega across the street has some other stuff. I could run—”
Bobby shook his head, taking the beer. “Sorry, no. I guess I just didn’t expect you to say you owned the place.”
“I felt a little out of my league…”
    Oh.
So Bobby G wasn’t as sure of himself as he acted. Jody was actually relieved to see he wasn’t the only one. At least Bobby had pretending perfected. Jody’d always worn everything on his face.
“My dad was into real estate. He helped me find the place, insisted on buying it. I was paying him back, but after he died a couple of years ago the property came with my trust.” He felt a pang of loss discussing his dad. Two years and Jody still didn’t like bringing up his death.
    “Your trust?” Bobby croaked.
Jody huffed an uncomfortable laugh. “You saw my mother’s place. And we own McNamara’s.”
“Own it?” Bobby’s surprise was more than evident.
“Well, yeah. You didn’t think I lived in Manhattan on a manager’s… Oh.” Bobby’d started staring at his beer, picking at the label. It was surprisingly endearing to see the man looking so flustered.
“I assumed you knew that. Angie and Iz being friends like they are.”
Bobby laughed uncomfortably. “Guess I just thought her brothers called you Richie Rich because you were from Manhattan. They’re petty like that.”
“Oh, no. They knew my dad. In fact, two of them still work for his development company.”
    “I see.”
“Is this a big deal?” Jody didn’t know why it should be, but it seemed like it was.
Bobby looked up, gazing into Jody’s eyes for a beat before covering up whatever he was thinking with his usual bluster. “So what should we get up to?” To say Bobby was leering would be an understatement. Immediately, the description of the “rakish hero” in some of Jody’s romance novels made all kinds of sense.
“I thought,” Jody started, then cleared his throat. “That we could hit one of the bars between here and Union Square. Or we could….” Bobby was shaking his head, staring at Jody’s mouth. Jody’s body sang with arousal as Bobby scooted closer to him on the couch, dropping a heavy hand to squeeze Jody’s knee.
“I vote for ordering in.” His husky tone did not sound like Bobby was thinking about food. This wasn’t what Jody had intended on tonight. But Bobby obviously was not here to braid one another’s hair.
“There’s a good Chinese place,” Jody said, embarrassed when his voice squeaked as Bobby’s hand moved up his inseam. Bobby was on Jody again, kissing him. This time, he owned Jody’s mouth, tongue sliding in and dancing with Jody’s. Hell if Jody couldn’t stop himself. He fell back against the arm of the couch, surrendering to the sensual assault.
Bobby was good at this. Jody hadn’t even realized he’d rescued both beers and placed them on the floor beside them without breaking the kiss. Bobby helped Jody shift around so he was lying on top of Jody, between his legs.
“You’re so hot,” Bobby groaned into Jody’s mouth. Jody’s body was winning the battle between his need to get off and his need to not jump in bed with Bobby on the first date.
    Technically it’s the second.
    Yeah, right.
Jody was about to protest but Bobby’s hips canted just right, grinding their clothed crotches
