handed the cut to Blade. I hugged Blade with one arm and said. “You’ll do a great job.”
Blade nodded at me and smiled. I walked to the basket and picked up my cell. I had three missed texts from Rebecca.
Hey I missed you leave this morning. What happened to breakfast in bed? ~Rebecca
    How’d the vote go? ~Rebecca
I’m still at your house, and would love some lunch. ~Rebecca
I smiled and headed out the door.

Chapter 8
    Aftershock

I finished texting Gavin and started snooping around his house a little. I found a lot of family pictures, club outings, and pictures of him with a lot of women. I walked into the kitchen and was happy when I saw he had made coffee before he headed out this morning. I couldn’t help but keep thinking about the trouble I’ve found myself in. I fell for my mark! I’ll never be able to show my face at the field office again. I couldn’t help but lean back against the counter and smile knowing I could do only this for the rest of my life and be happy. Just as I was about to go get dressed I heard the door slam. I yelled out as I was rushing through the kitchen, “Gavin! I’m so happy You’r– hom.” I cut myself off as I saw Hammer rush towards me. I tried to run into the living room but he punched me in the right temple and I dropped to the ground, hitting my head on the buffet table at the back of the couch. I laid in shock for a minute before I reached up and touched the goose egg that was forming on my temple. I pulled my fingers back and cringed when I saw the crimson blood flowing from my head wound, onto the floor and clouding my vision. I looked up as I heard heavy footsteps getting closer, and the last thing I saw was Hammer’s fist– then darkness.

The phone rang and Hammer answered it. All Lucas and I heard was Hammer say, “Lucas and Rebecca are a little tied up right now. And are you talking about your little play thing here? I picked her up from your house about twenty minutes ago.”
That was all I heard before he slammed down the receiver. The rope he used to tie us was chaffing my skin. I could feel Lucas struggling behind me, and muffled complaints from the gag in our mouths. Hammer walked through the living room, and started pawing at the family portraits on the fireplace mantle. Lucas drew his attention with all of his commotion as he tried to free himself.  Hammer stood in front of me and said to Lucas,
“Every noise you make I’m going to cut her. Every noise she makes I’m going cut you. Do you understand me?”
He nodded and made an agreeable sound. Unfortunately Hammer did warn him, and when he heard the sound from Lucas he sliced my bare arm with his buck knife. My scream was muffled as I cried quietly to myself. I looked down and saw the gash in my bicep which made me cry harder. My pain made Hammer laugh. He leaned in and whispered in my ear.
“I’m going to cut you, fuck you, then dump you like I do to all of the little whores. Gavin will never see you again.”   I nodded as I waited for him to busy himself with something else.
I heard a pounding at the door as I waited for Hammer to get it. While Hammer was busy, I worked my cast up and down and waited for Lucas’ and my ropes to loosen. The commotion in the kitchen drew our attention for a second but we were finally able to release our hands. I leaned down and untied my feet from the chair and whispered to Lucas.
“I’ll be right back. Don’t make much noise.”
He nodded in response, and I rushed off to the bedroom to get my pistol. I check the clip to make sure it was loaded and rushed through the hallway, looking for Hammer. I heard a crashing in the kitchen, so I figured Gavin must be here. I rushed past Lucas, motioned to be quiet and ran through the dining room towards the kitchen. I pushed the swinging door open, and yelled.
“ATF Get Down!” Hammer and Gavin stopped, and stared at me before Hammer started to rush me.
    “You are
