fucked things up, haven’t you?”
    “So it would seem.”
She turned her head to look at him again. “And it doesn’t bother you, does it?”
“There’s a lot of things that bother me, Makayla, a lot of things.” He rolled over to the other side, got out of the bed and walked around with his head down as if he was looking for something. She sat up, watching him find his pants and put them back on.
“Why am I getting this strange feeling that we are no longer talking about your friendship with Dane.” Drawing up her legs, resting arms and chin on the knees, she watched him pace the room. “Darius?”
He rubbed his face in the manner of a man beat down and tired. “Why don’t you try to get some sleep? Tomorrow is going to be a busy day.”
She wasn’t about to argue with him. Her body needed rest and she welcomed it. Lying back down, sheet covering her, Makayla closed her eyes, sighed, and let sleep take her away from this and all her troubles, for the moment. True to his words, tomorrow was going to be a busy day—one where she needed to figure out what she was going to do about her new life, and how she was going to get Dane to go along with it. After all, no matter what they all thought, this was permanent. No way in hell were things going to go back to the way they were.
    * * * *
Tomorrow arrived way too fast. The sun shining brightly in her face pulled Makayla out of a deep sleep. She stretched and winced at the soreness between her legs, which reminded her of everything that had happened hours before.
    “Hungry?”
Turning from one side to the other and sitting up she looked right at Darius who happened to be fully dressed. “How long have you been up?”
She knew she slept hard, but if he came to bed surely she’d feel him, yet she couldn’t recall him coming back to bed after he left it.
“Awhile,” he smiled. “Sometimes I don’t sleep. Come on and eat, before it gets cold.”
Glancing around, she spotted the robe still on the floor next to the bed. Since modesty was now out of the question, Makayla flung the sheet off, got up and, naked, bent over to pick it up, slipping it on her body. She knew he watched, felt his eyes on her. Robed, she joined him at the low table.
A spread of food covered the table. Fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, sausage, toast along with bagels with cream cheese. She smelled coffee, saw orange juice and grabbed for one of the bagels. He just sat back on the thick plush pillows, sipping coffee, watching her.
“You’re not going to eat?” she asked. He didn’t answer her. “Why are you staring at me?”
“I’m at a lost here, Makayla,” he sighed, putting the cup back on thetable. “For the first time in a very long time, I’m lost.”
“I don’t understand.” She spread some cream cheese on her bagel, placed it on the plate before her then reached for the fruit and juice.
“I don’t know what to do once we leave here.”
“Apologizing to Dane might be a good start.”
He snorted low, or was it a soft laugh? Either way the action did make him seem a bit lost. “I don’t think saying sorry to Dane will fix all of this. He’s known for a very long time that I’ve wanted you.”
“You’ve got to be the bigger man here then.” She smiled quickly before taking a bite of her bagel.
This time he chuckled and shook his head. “It’s not that simple.”
    “Says who?”
He sat forward, eyes locked on her. “You know what I’d like to know?”
    “What?”
“Why are you so easy going this morning? Last night you were ready to take my nuts off with a spoon and now you’re just going with the flow. Why?”
“Truth or would you like for me to lie and bullshit you?” She batted her eyes at him, he in turn, rolled his. ON a sigh, she tossed the half eaten bagel back on the plate. “Okay, I can see you’re in a mood. I’m going to have to learn those fast.”
    “Makayla.”
With a loud sigh, she stood up. “What’s the point? What’s
