Still she was having a tougher time winning over colleagues whose default position from her first day was skeptical, bordering on hostile. She tried hard to find gestures that would appeal to them, such as offering tickets to the next summerâs Democratic National Convention, where she would be onstage. But for those who did not respond to her overtures, she did not try again.
