cup of coffee on the desk. “Hello. March Publishing. How may I direct your call?”
Daye felt his sexy gaze on her as she moved efficiently to bring in his lunch. Anytime he looked at her, she felt her pulse flutter a little bit. There were many fantasies in her head with her attractive boss as the star.
“Ms. Lomaxx…” She directed her eyes back to her boss and he give her the signal that he did not want to talk. “…I’m sorry, Mr. March is in the middle of a meeting. I’m sure you’ve seen the news of his new acquisition.” Daye listened silently as the voice on the other end of the line became high pitched. Daye raised her eyebrow in the direction of her boss, who gave her a sheepish grin. “I will certainly tell Mr. March that he is a dog and a cad. Yes ma’am, I will make sure to use those other words as well. Yes, I have spelled your name with two ‘x’s, not one. Have a wonderful afternoon, Ms. Lomaxx.”
Daye pressed the button on her head set and directed her attention to her boss. “Ms. Lomaxx said—”
Morgan March held up his hand. “I heard and thank you for that.”
“You don’t need to thank me. It’s part of my job, sir,” Daye replied.
“It’s not part of your job to field the calls of my dates,” he reminded her.
“Well, she did tell me to spell her name with two letter ‘x’s instead of one and I do write the memos,” she teased.
He shook his head ruefully. “She isn’t the sharpest tack in the box.”
“I am assuming she has other talents, sir.” Daye looked at the tablet she had in her hand. “You have an afternoon meeting at noon and then another at four—”
“When are you going to stop calling me ‘sir’, Daye?” he asked, cutting off her stream of words.
Daye looked up to meet his gaze. “Well, probably never, since you are my boss.”
“I have been your boss for three years now. I think after reminding you a few dozen times to call me Morgan, it should’ve stuck.”
“Isn’t that kind of disrespectful in the office? If anyone else heard me they would think I am too big for my boots,” Daye said.
“Since there is only the two of us in these two offices, I am sure it will be fine,” Morgan replied. “If anyone comes in, feel free to call me sir, deal?”
She nodded. “That’s a deal. Now about your meetings…”
He waved off her words. “I have a special project I am working on. Do you mind working late tonight?”
“Um sure, I guess I could. Do you need me to go with you to the meetings?” Daye asked. She was suddenly confused by this new demeanor in him. He was usually always about business and if he needed her to attend a meeting she would have known two days before.
“No, I’ll be back here by six. Do you mind waiting?” he asked.
“I can go hit the upstairs gym until then and then do some filing,” Daye answered. “Is there anything in particular I’m supposed to do?”
“I just need to you to wait and I’ll explain all when I come back,” Morgan replied.
“Sir…Morgan, if I may say so you’re being very secretive,” Daye said.
His gaze was intense when she met his eyes. The butterflies in her tummy took flight and she wished she could press her hand against her stomach to quiet them down.
“There’s a lot you don’t know about me, Daye,” he said quietly.
“I guess so. You eat your lunch and I’ll have your files ready for when you leave.” Daye turned to head back to her desk.
“Daye.”
His voice stopped her in her tracks it was husky and sexy as hell. Daye didn’t turn around but answered from where she stood.
“Yes, Morgan?”
“Did I ever mention I love those pigtails you wear?”
“Thank you.”
She hurried to her desk and sat down. When she dared to look into the office at him, he was biting into a sandwich and studying a stack of papers in front of him. She sat back in her chair, put her hand over her chest and closed her eyes. What the hell was all that? She thought wildly.
