are you going to wear?” she asked as she helped me replace my earring.

“A red dress”, I replied from the top of my head.

“Any specific red dress that I know of?”

“The one I wore to the charity event last week”, I answered.

“I know that dress. If it could talk, it would have nothing to say”.

I let out a simple shy smile as I knew exactly what Tracy was referring to. We had snuck out into the bathroom that night and had had a lovely time pleasing each other during some long and boring speech that was not beneficial to either of us.

“Ok, I have to go now, I will let you in on all the other details that you will need before you leave for the party”.

Tracy snuck out of the bathroom looking neater than she had before walking in. I waited a good five minutes before getting out too and knew for a fact that she would be a good cover if anyone was asking around for me.

The rest of the day looked brighter and I felt more energetic as I carried on my usual duties. Being one of the legal advisors to the Governor was not easy and sometimes I pushed myself hard to do a better job, just to prove to myself, and to Ted, that I was a super woman. He preferred it if I was the obedient, submissive housewife who had his meals warm and on time for him as soon as he got home.

A call from my daughter made me realize that it was after 7:00 pm and I knew that I would get into yet another heated fight with Ted once I got home.

“Hello mom. What time will you be home?” she asked in her ever sweet and innocent voice.

“I am almost leaving the office dear. Is everything Ok?” I asked in a worried tone.

“You promised to help me with my science project. Remember?”

I hit my forehead with the palm of my left hand when I remembered about the science project.

    “Is your father home yet?”

“He is, he asked me to call you and ask what time you will get home to help me with the project. He says that it’s your job to be home on time and cook the family dinner”.

Her words rang in my head like a siren and I knew that Ted was trying to guilt trip me (as always) about my career. I clenched my hands into tight fists as I listened to her.

“I am on my way love”.

I hung up the phone almost immediately and stared at my computer screen. I had so much unfinished work but I had to get home and prove a point to Ted. A slight knock on my door from one of the security men made me jump up in my seat.

“Someone left you this package at the front office”, he said as he held a brown envelope up in midair. I stretched forth my hand and waved at him to bring the package closer to me and signed on the clipboard that he offered.

“Thank you”, I said politely and watched his back disappear from my office.

The contents of the brown package made me remember the party that Tracy had referred to that morning. There was a mask and a round color coded card painted a light blue on one side and a shade of scarlet red on the other. I got excited as I looked at it and a smile turned up the corners of my mouth as I thought of the night ahead.

The drive home was smooth and I was lost in my own thoughts most of the time. I thought of my life and how interesting events had turned out. How I never thought I could cheat on my husband and yet here I was doing it more than once with both men and women without feeling an ounce of remorse.

I eventually got home and slowly parked in the driveway before looking around the windows for any sign of life. Most of the lights were off except for the kitchen one. I looked at the time and noticed it was shortly after 8:00 pm. I walked towards the house with my hand bag in one hand and my office files in the other.

“Hey honey”, I said when I walked into the kitchen and noticed my daughter still struggling with a few science charts and trying to get them all straightened up.

    “Hey Mom”, she
