put.
âFLY!â cried Mordred. âSpread your wings! Up, up, and away!â The headmaster ran across the castle yard, flapping his arms to demonstrate.
âIâm not doing business with this lunatic,â said Lady Drippingwealth.
âLet us be gone!â cried Count Moneypots.
âNooooo!â warbled Mordred. âNoooooooooooooooooooooooo!â
âGet a grip, Mordie,â said Sir Fuzzydice. âItâs over.â
Mordredâs face went scarlet. His violet eyes bulged dangerously as they searched the crowd. At last, those eyes found Wiglaf.
âYOU!â roared Mordred. âThis is YOUR fault!â
âM-m-me, sir?â said Wiglaf.
âFriendly dragons, my fat foot!â snarled Mordred. âTheyâre scaring away my backers!â
Mordred grabbed the front of Wiglafâs graduation feed sack and lifted him up until Wiglaf was looking directly into his smoldering, violet eyes.
âGetâ¦ridâ¦ofâ¦theâ¦dragonsâ¦NOW!â bellowed Mordred.
Angus ran out from the henhouse. âUncle Mordred!â he cried. âLet him go!â
âFine!â Mordred opened his fist and Wiglaf dropped to the ground, landing at the headmasterâs feet.
And suddenly the headmasterâs feet seemed to soar upward all on their own!
Wiglaf raised his head and saw the headmaster dangling from Wormâs teeth.
Worm gave him a little shake.
âYIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEE!â shrieked Mordred.
âLet him go, Worm,â Wiglaf said firmly.
Worm opened his mouth.
Mordred fell to the ground with a THUNK! Angus gave him a hand up, and he staggered off after his backers.
âDragons can be a big attraction!Think of it:

Chapter 10
M ordred limped back to the castle yard and collapsed on the scrubbing block in a puddle of tears.
âAll my dreams and schemesâ¦,â he sobbed. âRuined!â
Now the royals came out from the stables. Other families crept out from their hiding places. Everyone stared and pointed at the dragons, but they kept their distance.
Except for Dudwin, Erica, Janice, and Daisy, who cried, âWorm!â and
âI-may Orm-way!â
as they ran to the dragons and greeted them like long-lost friends. Then they sat down together in the grass. Worm snuggled close to Shirley.
âThe minstrelâs song came true, Wiggie,â said Dudwin.
âThatâs what I told him,â said Angus. âThere was a sudden change of weather.â
âFamilies came, the sky darkened, and everybody ran around yelling âWoe!ââ said Dudwin.
âWe thought you were lost, Worm,â put in Erica.
âAnd now youâre found!â exclaimed Janice.
âBut the minstrel sang of a brave prince who would stand his ground,â said Wiglaf. âBut Prince Rex was the first to run away.â
â
You
were brave and stood your ground, Wiggie,â said Dudwin.
âBut I am not a prince.â Wiglaf shrugged. âStill, the minstrel did get most of it right,â he said and beamed at Worm. How happy he was to have his baby dragon back!
âAttenTION!â called Frypot from the platform. âSorry about the little interruption. Everybody sit and weâll finish graduation.â
The royals took their front-row seats again. The other families sat back down behind them.
âWhoever doesnât have a diploma, come and get it,â said Frypot, not bothering with names.
Some Class I lads and lasses ran up to the platform.
Frypot tossed diplomas at them and then said, âThatâs it! Bye-bye!â
âWait!â bellowed Mordred, running toward the platform and wiping his tears and
