pick of any woman here why—?
It doesn’t matter how perky their collective breasts are, he chose me.
Lifting her chin, she approached Antonio and her gaze locked with his. Liquid heat rolled across her skin. A dark gleam entered his shadowed eyes and a surge of triumph raced through her.
    She’d made the right decision.
“Excuse me, ladies.” She placed a hand on his arm though their gazes never shifted. “I need to steal your companion as we have business together this evening.”
“And the next.” His tone was amused.
“Well, we’ll see about that.” She smiled.
A woman dressed in a pink corset jostled Jane, breaking her eye contact with Antonio.
    “Look here, blondie—”
“Ladies, it has been a distinct pleasure talking with you.” Antonio pushed away from the rail. “I must leave you as Ms. Porter and I have a prior engagement so I will bid you good evening.”
    “Tony—”
“Thank you for keeping him, amused, while he waited.” Jane slid her hand into his arm and flashed them a wide smile. “It’s much appreciated.”
Together, they walked away arm in arm.
“You’re very cheeky.” His hand covered hers.
“I’m a woman on a mission. By surrounding you they became collateral damage.”
Tipping his head back, Antonio laughed heartily and Jane smiled.
“I was glad to see you walk in,” he said. “I think they were plotting on how to grab me and secret me up to a bedroom.”
“ Mmm , I wouldn’t be too worried if I were you.” She gave his arm a gentle squeeze. “You strike me as man who can take care of himself.”
“We’ve known each other such a short time and already you know me well.”
“I see you’ve managed to ferret out my name,” she said. “So much for the mask.”
“When I see something I want, I let nothing stand in my way of learning what I need.”
A shiver ran down her spine.
    “Are you always this resourceful?”
“I’d like to think so.” He smiled and her stomach clenched again. “Can I interest you in something to eat?”
“No, I don’t think I could eat anything right now. I think I’d like to go straight for….dessert.” Her voice cracked, and she mentally cursed. She could only hope he didn’t notice she was shaking from head to toe.
“A woman after my own heart.”
He escorted her from the ballroom to the grand staircase. With every stair her ability to make conversation diminished. By the time they reached the second floor, Jane was sure her tongue was permanently glued to the roof of her mouth.
    “Nervous?” he asked.
    Mute, she nodded.
“It’s important for you to remember nothing will happen that you don’t approve.” His voice was deep and reassuring. “In every master and submissive relationship, it is the submissive who’s in command.”
He opened a door then stepped aside to allow her to enter. It was a large room with a towering four-poster bed on one side and a spacious fireplace on the other. A plush couch was situated before the fire and French doors led outside to a balcony.
“Can I interest you in a glass of wine?” he asked.
    “That would be lovely.”
    “Red or white?”
“White, please.” Jane drifted toward the fireplace. The scent of burning wood was soothing.
“This is from my father’s vineyards.” He opened a small refrigerator and pulled out a bottle. “I think you will find this to be more than satisfactory.”
“How did your family get into the wine business?”
“My great grandfather started working at the winery when he was seven years old. Fifteen years later he married the owner’s daughter and here we are today.”
“Sounds like a romance novel.” Jane sank onto the couch and kicked off her shoes. “Love among the vines.”
“They were totally devoted to one another.” Antonio offered her a glass. “My father said his grandfather never looked at another woman other than his wife.”
“What a novel idea.” Jane took the glass. “Thank you.”
    She took a sip
