words. Jonathan took hold of her arm and pulled her
up and close to him. “It’s all right. I’m okay now. I’ve moved on,
as did you.” He wrapped his arm around her back, and pressed his
fingers against her scars as if she needed reminding. “Do you want
to talk about it?”
She sighed heavily and leaned deeper into
his chest while he played with her hair, twisting and winding it
around his fingers. “When I left I went to New York City. I never
told anyone where I went. I didn’t want anyone to come looking for
me while I was trying to find myself.”
“Did you?” He looked down at her face.
She scrunched her forehead. “Did I
what?”
    “Find yourself?”
Roxi closed her eyes tightly. “No. I felt
even more lost. I ended up with a sadist who I connected with, but
it wasn’t what I wanted. It really wasn’t as bad as it could have
been. I got lucky I didn’t land in a bad situation. My mind
probably wouldn’t have known the difference, I was so messed
up.”
“Oh, Rox. I’m so sorry, honey.” He pressed a
kiss to the top of her head, and held her firmly.
“Don’t be. I loved the way my Master treated
me, and I kept going back for more until he invited me to live with
him permanently. That’s when I knew if I did, I’d be lost forever.
So I came back here. I don’t know, I think I’m wired wrong or
something, Jonathan.” She played with a tear in the knee of her
sweatpants, running her finger along the hole. “I came back here
because I didn’t know where else to go.”
“You came to the right place. I’ll help you,
but not until you are healed properly.” He squatted in front of her
and ran his finger gently over her bruise. “We do this on my terms,
and we can’t let feelings get in the way.”
She wanted more pain than he could dish out,
and that was something she wasn’t sure he could pull off. A jingle
played from across the room distracting her from her thoughts. “Oh,
that must be Linda. You should get it, or I’ll get it for you.”
Roxi tried to pull away from him to retrieve his cell phone, but he
held her in place to prevent her from rising.
“No.” He placed his palm on her shoulder.
“Let it go to voicemail.”
He looked sad, or at least that’s what she
thought. Probably because he was stuck there taking care of her.
She noted the few times they’d spoken of Linda that his eyes lit up
and he smiled genuinely. Wanting to cash in on that contentment,
she decided to plan a surprise for Jonathan.
Sure, she’d be jealous of the other woman,
but he might as well be content. No reason he couldn’t be happy, and help to meet her own needs at the same time.

Chapter Six

Later that same night, a knock at the door
jolted Jonathan from his reading.
Roxi went to answer the door. “It’s for
you.” She hesitated before actually opening it. He cocked his head,
and she smiled.
Swinging the door open, Roxi immediately
stepped to the side to reveal none other than the flight attendant,
Linda. Jonathan sat upright. He hadn’t actually seen her since he
abruptly left her at the airport to care for Roxi.
“Aren’t you going to say hello?” Roxi
asked.
“Yes, of course.” He stood. “I wasn’t
expecting a visitor.” He narrowed his eyes, giving his face a
dangerous edge. Roxi looked to the floor and dropped her arms to
her sides in submission as he walked past her. “Hello, Linda. This
is a nice surprise.” He held his hands out in front of him in
greeting, and took her hands.
“You were in the shower when I phoned; Roxi
called me back, and told me to swing by. I hope that’s okay?” Her
voice filled with excitement, and her face was simply beautiful.
How could he turn her away?
“Come in.” He shot Roxi a menacing gaze.
“Linda, have a seat, and I’ll get you a drink.” He showed her to
the couch, and when Roxi joined them he grasped Roxi by the arm.
“Come,” he whispered in her ear.
Once in the kitchen, he stood close to Roxi
and looked
