“We have no idea where Sebastian is. He could have gotten to you before we had a chance to explain. We had to move fast.”
Rebecca finally placed the glass of water on the table beside her, her brow drawn in a thoughtful expression. “Tonya will be beside herself. She’ll know I didn’t leave that letter.” She looked at Nicholas and the sadness he saw darkening her eyes made his gut clench. “I can’t just leave her hanging. And what if Sebastian thinks to use her to get to me?”
“He shouldn’t even know about Tonya,” Nicholas said.
“Why wouldn’t he? According to you, once the three of us join, he’ll know. Who’s to say he won’t find out about me and about my friends?” She raised her hand, slapping them down on her thighs. “And why in God’s name would someone cast such a spell?
You have to have sex with me to know it’s me?”
“It wasn’t just about…identifying you,” Darien said with a slight grimace. “You are to be our wife.”
She raised an eyebrow and glared at them skeptically. “Your wife?”
“Yes,” Darien said, his lips lifting in a sideways grin of apology. “Warlocks and witches know their mates when they have sex with them. Apparently our mother knew you would be our life mate and that’s why she said we would know you when we joined with you.”
“We have a ring if you would like it,” Darien offered and she stared at him in shock.
“What I would like,” she snapped, “is for the two of you to come back to reality.
Your wife? Okay. I may believe the warlock story but your wife ?”
“Why is that so hard to fathom?” Nicholas asked in exasperation. He would never understand women. “This is how it’s always done within our kind. Warlock to witch.
It’s what keeps us pure.”
She snorted. “Pure? And what if you fall in love with a mortal?”
“There have been a few,” Darien relented. “But not many. Is becoming our wife so distasteful? Did we not go well together?”
An adorable pink blush moved over her cheeks. “That’s not the point. I might be okay with the whole protection thing. But I refuse to marry you.”
Nicholas started to say something but Darien held up his hand, stopping him. “We will agree to that for now. But at least give us the opportunity to change your mind.”
“You want the opportunity to court me?” she asked Darien shrugged and Nicholas almost laughed out loud at her shocked expression.
She was so damn adorable. “No,” Nicholas replied, his grin widening. “We just want you to keep an open mind.”

She snorted, crossing her arms over her chest.
“Think about it. If the sex was that good, imagine what day-to-day life would be like.”
“Let’s see,” she murmured. “Going from uncontrollable lust to wanting to strangle you? Yeah, I can see how that would make for a heck of a day-to-day life.” She rolled her eyes. “I want to contact Tonya. That’s the only way you’ll get my cooperation.”
“You’re not exactly in a position to be making demands, Becca,” Darien replied, his lips forming a lopsided grin.
“Wanna bet?” she snarled and raised her hands to snap her fingers. Nicholas reached out and grasped her hands within his, making her eyes narrow dangerously.
“Don’t be foolish, Rebecca. You’re not strong enough to transport yourself that far,”
Nicholas hissed.
Rebecca watched him, studied him as though trying to read his mind. You know I’m right , he whispered into her mind and her eyes widened in fear.
“You can speak to me in my mind?” she whispered.
“Yes and you will be able to speak to us that way, as well, once you fully accept your fate. Now promise to behave and we’ll see that you get to speak to Tonya. Deal?”
“You said I was too far away to transport myself. Where are you taking me?”
“England,” Darien replied and her face went ashen.

Tonya stood outside the door to the club and banged her knuckles loudly against the wood.
