exactly?”
“Just to make sure everything is all right,” Chase said.
“I’m seeing Dr. Jenna McKinney, like I just told Dr. Evans.” When Brendan’s jaw tightened, she added, “I just feel more comfortable seeing a female doctor.”
“I know, but I’ve been meaning to speak to you about that. You see, Dr. Evans is specialized in treating shifters and I’d feel better knowing that he’s involved in your care.”
“That’s just fine, but I’m not a shifter, I’m a human,” Katlyn said. She stared at Dr. Evans, trying to determine if he was a shifter and, if so, what kind. “So what kind of shifter are you then, Doctor? Another mountain lion?”
“Who says I’m a shifter just because I chose to treat the shifters in the area?”
“I can’t imagine that shifters might trust humans like they would one of their own.”
“Perhaps it’s better if she sticks with her doctor, Brendan.”
Katlyn smiled. “I know you’re not my doctor, but can I ask you a question pertaining to being pregnant, since we’re all here now?”
    “I’d be happy to answer.”
“Is it safe for a woman to be intimate when she’s pregnant?”
He cleared his throat as he grinned widely. “I see. Well, I’d say as long as the woman wasn’t having problems with her pregnancy that it’s quite safe. It’s important for a pregnant woman to feel desired and loved throughout her pregnancy, and intimacy is part of that.”
Katlyn smiled as she stared over at her mates. “Thank you, Doctor. That’s most helpful.”
“So you didn’t feel any pain, just a little pull when you got up, is that right?” Dr. Evan said.
    “Exactly.”
“Well, it sounds just find then, but if you have any pain or spotting, be sure to have a checkup. Knowing Dr. McKinney they way I do, I’m sure you’re in great hands.”
    Brendan glanced around. “Where’s Melody?”
“My receptionist took her next door to get her an ice cream cone,” Dr. Evans said.
    “Did you find Melody’s mother?”
“Yes, and we’ll leave her right where she is. I don’t want Melody to see her mother in that kind of condition. I’ll send out Angus to bring her home later,” Brendan said.
“Where was she, exactly? The saloon?” Katlyn asked.
“Yes. Carrie really needs to keep better company,” Brendan said, paying the doctor for Melody’s office visit. “And remember she has a daughter that needs her.”
Dr. Evan was thanked and they left, gathering Melody who was chatting up a storm to the receptionist who she referred to as Mindy. Katlyn didn’t care for the way Mindy looked at her mates, but she kept her tongue since she didn’t want them to think that she was insecure. Of course, what woman wouldn’t want to throttle any woman sniffing too close to her mates? Katlyn might think differently if her mates weren’t so worried about making love to her, but now that the doctor reiterated what she had tried to explain to them earlier, she hoped that tonight would be much different.

Chapter Six
Katlyn headed back into their cabin when she came back from taking Melody home. She waited for Brendan and Chase to join her inside, but they were milling around outside with Angus. She overheard them saying something to the effect that he needed to make sure that Carrie came back to Shadow Creek alone. Katlyn wondered what Brendan had meant, but before she could ponder it further, Brendan and Chase waltzed inside.
“Who was Carrie really with in town? Seth, perhaps?”
Chase raised a brow. “Seth? Why would you think that?”
“It’s just that I couldn’t think of anyone else that Carrie shouldn’t be around in town.”
“Oh,” Brendan said with a hint of a smile. “Since when are you an expert about the goings on in the saloons of Creeksboro?”
“I’m not, but I have a right to know what’s going on, especially when it involves the mother of one of my students.”
“I hope you get the chance to meet Carrie and you’ll know
