right now."
"Well, you're going to put the bakery in my name." Lewis replied, slurred words becoming hard and harsh, "Or else I'm going to make sure everyone at the Davis company knows exactly what kind of marriage you and Sebastian have."
"What do you mean?" I hissed, passing the phone to my other shoulder as I walked farther down the hall away from the room with my family within, "What are you talking about?"
"I think the board of executives might look down on an arranged marriage of convenience just for the money, don't you?" He giggled, "I guess we could find out. Or you could just give me the bakery."
"Go to hell." I spat, hanging up on him and shoving the phone back in my pocket.
Was he serious? What would the board really think if they found out about how our marriage was conducted? Surely our child would be enough to prove that our relationship was real.
Though, funnily enough, it certainly wasn't real at her conception.
What were we going to do? What could we do?
My heart leapt into my throat, anxiously pacing up and down the hall as I struggled to come up with a solution.
I could not let him have my parents' bakery. I absolutely could not let that happen. I didn’t get married and go through all of this just to sign it away.
"Macy?" My husband's voice drifted towards me, worry in his voice.
I turned, tears prickling in my eyes as he walked towards me, confusion on his face.
He grabbed my shoulders, learning down to gaze into my eyes, "Tell me everything." He whispered, “Let me help you.”
Chapter Eight
"That son of a bitch." Karina spat in disgust as Harry hurriedly covered the infant's ears, "Who does he think he is?"
"Calm down, Mother." Sebastian sighed, "Surely the board couldn't care less about the circumstances of my marriage. It's been over a year now and no one's said anything."
My mother in law laughed condescendingly, shaking her head as she crossed her arms firmly over her chest, "Bast, you honestly think they won't care? You're still such a child, it shocks me."
"I'm over thirty." Sebastian rebuked, frowning at her chastisingly, "What don't I understand?"
"There is no one on that board who wouldn't kill for the chance to kick you off." Karina sighed as she happily accepted a glass of wine from Tina, "They had to look the other way for the sudden marriage because there was no proof that it was false devotion, but if Lewis goes to the press with this, they'll kick you out for the suspicion alone. Bad press is bad for the company, and they won’t stand for it. Your father waited for a divorce until after he retired for a reason."
Sebastian's lips tensed. I could practically see the gears turning in his head. He wanted to disagree with her, I could see that much, but there was simply no alternative.
"You're right." He final said, "I would lose the corporation.”
"You would lose everything." Karina nodded, "This house, your business, everything that your father worked so hard on. He'd be so disappointed if he still bothered to come around."
Sebastian and I exchanged quick and uncomfortable glances as Karina continued rambling.
"Do you know how many hours and years that man put into what you have today? If it wasn't for him, you would have nothing. Nothing at all." She shook her head, clicking her tongue, "And I'm still fairly certain most of those hours were actually at work and not spent with his sexy secretary fling of the week."
"Mother." My husband piped up uncertainly, "About that..." We had to let her know that George and Alissa were back.
Karina slammed her hands down on the dining room table, leaning across towards the handsome billionaire, "If George were here, he would tell you to go and shut that man up." She said stiffly, "Nip it in the bud."
"Why is he even doing this?" Harry asked mournfully with a shake of his head, "It's so unlike him."
I hadn’t even thought about how close Harry and Lewis had become working in that bakery day in and day out. He
