thirteen. Rapping is not for me. I could never get on stage and perform like that. Iâm more of a behind-the-scenes type of chick. Iâm good without the fame. I already got my share of it. All I want is my check, you feel me?â Jewel chuckled.
âI heard that. You already got your fame, huh? Aâight, Miss Local Celebrity.â I laughed.
Jewel snapped back, âNo, baby. Iâm a star wherever I go.â
âDamn, girl. One thing about you that Iâm gonna have to get used to is that mouth.â I shook my head, wondering if it was really possible for me to get used to it.
âThatâs me. You have to accept everything about me, smart mouth and all. Take it or leave it. I put it all out there straight, no chaser. Now itâs up to you to decide what you want.â
âIâll take it.â I laughed, knowing I could break her little ass down to Reeseâs Pieces in a matter of days.
Jewel joined in on my laughter. âI know.â
Time passed by quickly as we talked and laughed together, and before I knew it, we were at the Williamsburg Outlet. I parked and opened the door for Jewel.
âWhat store do you want to start at first?â she asked.
âLead the way. Iâm with you,â I replied with a smile that consisted of a upper blue and white diamond grill.
I followed Jewel as she headed to our first stop, the BCBG store. Next, we hit Michael Kors. Then we hit a few stores for me, like the Timberland store, Cole Haan, Izod, Nike Factory, and Vans. After that, we were back to Jewelâs picks, Guess, Coach, Perfume World, and Sunglass World. Knowing that Jewel was watching my every move, I didnât complain the entire time. I never even lifted an eyebrow, no matter how much her total ran up to.
âBefore we leave, I want to hit Gymboree and Nautica,â Jewel requested.
âGymboree? Isnât that a kidsâ store?â
âYes, it is.â
âI didnât know you had kids,â I stated.
âI donât.â
With a puzzled look on my face, I began to wonder if Jewel was straight trying to play me for a sucker. I watched as she picked up little girlsâ clothing, two of each. My first reaction was to cuss her ass out, but I chose to roll with it. I figured at least I could get a fuck out of it, if nothing else. I prepared to pay as we reached the counter.
âThank you for your generosity, but I got this one.â
Jewelâs response surprised me. âSo whoâs it for?â I asked out of curiosity.
âTouchâs twin girls.â
âOh yeah? Yâall tight like that?â
âYep! Tighter than these jeans I have on.â Jewel laughed.
As I watched her ass bounce with each step, I thought, Damn! And my nigga ainât never tried to fuck that?
âI want cookies and cream on a waffle cone,â she said like a kid at the ice cream truck as we passed Ben & Jerryâs.
âCome on, baby, I know you donât want that junk. Iâm in the mood for steak.â I looked at my watch.
âOkay,â she quickly agreed. âSteak is better than ice cream on any day.â
âUnless that day happens to be the day you get your tonsils taken out.â We both laughed.
âSo, are we eating here or back near the beach?â Jewel asked as we loaded the bags into the trunk of the car.
âItâs up to you.â
âUmmm, the beach. I donât know much about this area, except the outlet stores.â
âOkay.â I took her right hand and kissed it. âWell, letâs go get lady Jewel her filet mignon.â

I spotted my homeboy Calico as soon as I walked through the door of Mo Deanâs Jamaican Restaurant and Lounge. âWhat up, ace.â
