The Dragon Guardian
“I’m not about to let the flirty bastard in the car with you. I’ll be riding in the backseat next to you. It’s the only way I can protect you.”
“I’m sure Fraser can protect me just as well. Unless you’re going to tell me your brother is a useless piece of crap who can’t take care of himself, let alone anyone else?”
Fraser walked toward them. “Hey now—”
Fergus cut his twin off. “After what just happened, I thought you’d want me to protect you.”
The second he said it, surprise flashed across Gina’s face. Then her jaw tightened. His dragon roared in the back of his head to stop it, but Fergus ignored his beast.
Holly moved to Gina’s side and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. “Fergus, fly ahead.”
He growled and looked to his sister-in-law. To her credit, she didn’t so much as raise an eyebrow. “No.”
“I’m the midwife and you’re causing Gina stress. Fly your arse ahead or I will involve both Finn and Lorna in this.”
Fergus didn’t back down. “I’m not a teenager. I’m not afraid of my mum.”
Fraser laid a hand on his shoulder. Fergus swiveled his head to the side. “Now is not the time to touch me, brother.”
“Bloody hell,” Fraser murmured. “Fly ahead, Fergus. You’re both frightening and pissing off your human.”
Gina spoke up. “I’m not his human.”
Fraser never took his eyes from Fergus’s. “If you want what we discussed, then leave. I swear on our mother’s life, I won’t touch her.”
Fergus’s dragon snarled. We can’t leave Fraser alone with her. He may try to claim Gina.
At the mentioning of his brother pursuing Gina, the angry haze lifted a fraction from his brain. He has a mate.
Maybe he’ll revert to what the dragons did a millennium ago and take multiple mates.
The ridiculous statement cleared his head further. Fergus glanced around the room. Everyone was staring at him, waiting to see what he’d do next.
What the hell had gotten into him?
Before his dragon could poison his thoughts and push him over the edge, Fergus gave a curt nod. “I’ll fly ahead.”
With one last look at Gina, Fergus stormed from the room. Her pregnancy may prevent a mate-claim frenzy, but it was clear his dragon wanted her. He’d thought she’d wanted him too.
Maybe he’d been too domineering. Fergus had always been the respectful and patient twin. Losing sight of that might have cost him his lass.
And yes, after Gina moaning into his mouth as she leaned against him for support, he finally agreed with his dragon. Gina was his female and true mate. After all this time, he’d finally found her.
However, the kiss had spooked her. Fergus needed to find out more about the bastard father of her child so he could think of how to handle the situation. While patience was usually one of his best traits, his dragon paced in the back of his mind. The action reminded him of what might happened if he took too long.
His dragon hissed. Exactly. I will take her and claim her. She is ours. We should keep her away from the others.
I agree, but I need some time.
Hurry up. Even without the mate-claim frenzy, I want her. No, I need her.
Fergus reached the clearing outside and took off the material around his waist. As chilly air brushed against his skin, Fergus weighed all of his options. Surely one of them would give him a way to win over Gina’s trust.
Not only that, he was going to have to talk to Finn. Secrets had nearly torn his family apart two months ago. Fergus wasn’t about to chance it again. The only question was whether his clan leader would be able to help the human or not.

Despite her show of bravado, Gina’s heart thundered inside her chest.
She was alone with Holly and Fraser. Despite the fact that was what she wanted, the room felt emptier without Fergus’s presence.
She never should’ve kissed him. Deep down, she would admit it was the best kiss of her life, even better than with Travis. But a kiss didn’t equate
