glancing at the rental carâs GPS. He was glad something of the woman heâd known as his mother was intact. He was still surprised by Fiona calling his father âTaid.â It was what heâd called his grandfatherâthe Welsh word for itâbut he didnât remember using it much around Fiona or explaining what it meant. He knew Fiona was smart, but he was continually surprised by how observant she was.
âHi, sweetheart,â Caitlin said. âAre you having fun with Nana?â
âHi, Fiona,â Edward said.
âYes, that was Daddy saying hi.â
Edward exited the highway and started maneuvering through surface streets as Caitlin continued her conversation.
âOkay, Iâll call you tonight before bedtime,â Caitlin said. âI love you. Bye-bye, honey.â
They wove their way into the French Quarter and pulled into the driveway for the hotel.
âChecking in today, sir?â a uniformed man asked as he opened Edwardâs door. Caitlin was receiving similar treatment.
Edward popped the trunk and handed the keys to the valet. âYes, Huntington.â
âWeâre delighted to have you.â
âLet me get those for you, maâam,â another valet said, taking the suitcases from the trunk and loading them onto a cart. âTheyâll be waiting in your room for you.â
âOh,â Caitlin said. âWell, thank you.â
Edward handed the valet a five-dollar bill, then took Caitlinâs hand, and they headed into the lobby. It was massive, with crystal chandeliers and marble floors.
âYou did good,â Caitlin said, looking around.
âThe hotel isnât bad either,â Edward said.
âSmooth.â
âReservation for Huntington,â Edward said to the well-coiffed woman at the check-in desk.
âYes, of course,â the woman said, her smile turning up. âWeâve been expecting you. The honeymoon suite is all prepared for you.â She handed him the key cards. âElevatorâs to your left, top floor.â
âThank you,â Edward said.
âThis place is incredible,â Caitlin said as they walked to the elevator. âI donât think Iâve ever stayed anywhere nicer than a Holiday Inn before this.â
Edward smiled. âWe can afford it; itâs our honeymoon, and you deserve it.â
âYou are so getting lucky tonight.â
Edward blushed as the couple who exited the elevator sniggered and smiled.
As they rode the elevator up, Caitlin squeezed his hand and pressed close.
When they reached their room, he opened the door to their suite and led Caitlin inside.
âHoly shit,â she said and stared slack-jawed at the room.
Edward laughed.
Together they stepped from the entryway and into the first room. It was the living room of the suite. He had to admit, saying it was lavish was an understatement. Lavish wouldâve been without the fireplace and authentic eighteenth-century billiards table.
âOh my God,â Caitlin said when she saw the huge bouquet of roses on the table, the plate of chocolates, and the champagne chilling.
âI love you,â Edward said as he came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her.
âYes, you do,â she said. She bent down and took a bite of a chocolate. âThatâs good.â She fed the rest of it to Edward.
âCome on, letâs see the rest of the place.â
They went through the formal dining room, the bathroomâwhich Caitlin decided needed to come back to New Hampshire with themâthe large deck with a spacious view of the city, and finally the bedroom.
âI love the bed,â Caitlin said as she leapt onto the plush mattress of the canopy bed. She smiled and let out a long sigh. âI feel like a princess.â
âYouâre so much more than that,â Edward said, then went to the bags and started to unpack.
âI think Iâm going to have
