Pursu ed By The Alpha
Three months ago
Caleb Grey awoke with a start. His dreams had been filled with vivid images of a gorgeous, voluptuous young woman, and as he rubbed the sleep fr om his eyes, he knew exactly what it meant. After becoming the alpha of his pack six months ago, it had become clear that the only thing left to do in order to complete his life was to take a mate. As a werewolf, there was only one mate for him, but he had to wait until she arrived. She would come to the town eventually. ‘ It is destiny’, the elder wolves had told him when he was just a pup. ‘Just wait. She will come.’
He knew the process could be long and difficult. As only men could be werewolves, it was up to them to locate their human female mates when they arrived and convince them to mate with them. If they failed, they would be a lone wolf forever. I can’t afford to fail, Caleb thought. I’m an alpha now. My pack would never respect a packmaster who couldn’t even take his mate.
And now, she was here. The dream had told him so. Not only that, but as he shifted into his wolf form and sniffed the air, he could smell her; a beautiful aroma that seemed to permeate every part of his body as he inhaled deeply, drinking in her intoxicating scent with each deep breath. After shifting back into his usual human form, Caleb walked over to the window and stared out at the full moon, filled with joy that his mate had finally arrived. It is time for me to pursue her.
Present Day – Wolfwood, Maryland
“Alice? Are you in there?”
Alice Miller’s best friend and housemate, Dalia, called to her as she curled her eyelashes in the bathroom. Her long, dark lashes had always been her best feature, and curling them took them to a whole new level, making her pale green eyes really ‘pop’. She had always tended to focus on the good aspects of her face, seeing as she had never thought there was anything nice about her body.
She knew she wasn’t overweight in the medical sense; her doctor had told her so after every check-up, but she still felt chubby. Ever since hitting puberty at an early age, she had always been curvier than most other girls, and relentless bullying all through high school had nearly driven her into a spiral of depression.
If it hadn’t been for Dalia taking her under her wing when they were fifteen, she had no idea how she would have even survived high school. Now, they were both twenty-one and had moved together to a new town, Wolfwood.
After having been in Wolfwood for three months now, Alice was almost completely settled in. She had lined up a decent paying job at a medical center before moving there, and Dalia had found them a nice old house to share.
“Yes, I’m just putting on some makeup,” she replied. “Did you pick a restaurant for dinner?”
“Yep, that’s why I was looking for you. I was thinking that we could try Gianni’s, that Italian place on the corner.”
“Okay, sounds good.”
“Who knows… maybe your secret admirer will be there!” Dalia said, teasing her through the door.
Alice giggled.
“He’s hardly a secret admirer. I know his name and what he looks like. The guy will not leave me alone! Did I tell you that he delivered more flowers to work the other day?”
“Yeah, you mentioned it. I think it’s sweet. Why not just go out on one date with him? I know you like him too.”
Alice finished touching up her eyelashes with mascara and then opened the door.
“You know why.”
“Alice, you’re gonna have to get past that one day,” Dalia said, her eyebrows knitted together in concern.
A few years ago, when the two women were in their senior year of high school, a group of the ‘popular kids’ in school had decided to play a nasty prank on Alice. Their group ‘leader’, Mark, was the most handsome, popular boy in school, and when he had asked
