wouldnât understand her language. âItâisâniceâtoâmeetâyou. IâamâRosetta. Thisâisâ¦â
Vidia rolled her eyes. âRo, sheâs a winter fairy. Sheâs not from the moon.â
âOh, right,â Rosetta said, embarrassed. Her cheeks flushed. âIâm just so excited.â
Periwinkle smiled. âItâs great to meet all of you.â
Silvermist flew in closer. âThis is so remarkable!â She looked back and forth between Tinker Bell and Periwinkle. âYou two are sisters!â
Vidia put her arm around Periwinkle. âA little fairy-to-fairy advice,â she whispered. âTink can be a bit tricky to get along with at times.â
âYeah,â Tinker Bell said sarcastically. âLook whoâs talking.â
âWe canât believe youâre over here,â Fawn chimed in, changing the subject.
âSo are you cold enough?â Iridessa asked.
Periwinkle did a little spin inside her cone of snow. âItâs perfect,â she said.
âOh, I nearly forgot!â Rosetta exclaimed. âThis is for you. Itâs called a periwinkle also.â She handed the winter fairy a delicate blue flower.
âThank you. Iâll keep it forever.â Periwinkle said. She waved her hand across the flower, and instantly it was encased in a thin layer of frost.
The warm-weather fairies were amazed.
âItâs frost,â Tinker Bell explained. âShe and her friends practice in the Frost Forest. You should see it.â
The fairies continued chattering excitedly. They couldnât believe Tinker Bell actually had a sister! But as they talked, they didnât notice Periwinkleâs wings slowly beginning to droop.
Suddenly, the frost fairy sank to the ground. âI donât feel soâ¦â she said weakly.
âPeriwinkle!â Tinker Bell cried. She rushed to her sisterâs side.
âMy wings,â Periwinkle whispered, frightened. The frost fairyâs wings were beginning to wilt! âI canât feel them. I think theyâre too warm.â
Bobble looked up at the snowmaker. He was pedaling quickly to keep the snow coming. But he realized that the snowflakes were starting to dwindle.
âItâs running out of ice!â Clank exclaimed.
âWe have to get her back to the border,â Fawn declared.
Periwinkle gazed up at Tinker Bell. âWhat about the queen?â she said in a small voice.
âThereâs no time,â Tinker Bell exclaimed. She turned to Clank and Bobble. âClank, grab some ice. Weâll wrap her wings.â
Everyone sprang into action, scraping up fallen snow to surround Periâs drooping wings. Together, they all pushed the snowmaker toward the border.
âCome on,â Iridessa cried. âWe can do this!â
Bobble pedaled as fast as his legs could go.
âWeâre almost there,â Tinker Bell called out. She turned to Periwinkle. âNot much farther,â she said. But her heart sank when she saw the strained look on Periwinkleâs face. They were running out of time.
Just as the machine used up the last bit of ice and the snowflakes stopped coming, Tinker Bell and Vidia tumbled with Periwinkle back across the border. The winter fairy fell to the ground the minute they crossed the bridge. She was too weak to even stand.
Tinker Bell helped unwrap her sisterâs wings. When the snow fell away, Tinkâs hand flew to her mouth. Instead of being iridescent and sparkling, Periwinkleâs wings were brown and wilted.
Just then, the fairies caught sight of Lord Milori. He swooped down on his snowy owl and hurried toward the injured frost fairy.
âPlease,â Tinker Bell begged, âcan you help her?â
âTink,â Vidia said urgently. It was getting too cold for them. Vidia quickly pulled Tinker Bell back across the border to safety.
On the winter side, Lord Milori
