following Friday. While her father had been one of the founding members of the business, he’d decided that he wanted to retire so that he could enjoy life and travel a bit. Honestly, she hoped that he would find a love interest so that he would quit harassing her about getting married and providing him with grandchildren to spoil.
Her cell rang, making her wish the damned thing would have lost its charge, but oh hell no, it was ringing. She glanced at the caller ID, and turned the stupid thing off. She’d talk to Yuma later, when she had to. Right now, she just wanted to think without him there to “help.”
Luckily, her father was out, so she had plenty of time to plan. And even better, although it was a Sunday, she was able to verify bookings for everything from the venue in the Crossroads Art District of Kansas City to the food and the decorations. She had a true sense of accomplishment as everything for once fell into place for her.
She heard a door open and braced herself to deal with her father. As if she needed more lectures on working Yuma out of her system. That hadn’t worked so far. She wanted him more now than she had before. No, what she needed to do was move away and become a nun or something. She rolled her eyes at the thought.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing, dammit!” Yuma fumed as he slammed the door behind him.
“I needed time to think, Yuma. Is that okay with you?” She couldn’t help but wonder how he’d gotten inside. On second thought, she really needed to work on learning to lock doors behind her.
“You couldn’t think at my place?”
“No, you want to think for me at your place.” She paced the living room. “I needed some dominant-free time to myself.”
“Bull. Shit.” He stomped over to stand in from of her. “The only time I try to control you is when we’re making love—never once have I tried to control you otherwise.”
“Then why are you so pissed off at me now?” she shouted at him, through with the crap and wanting to get it all out in the open.
“Because I was worried about you! I talked to Reno, and he gave me your message by the way. He thought it was a hell of a lot more humorous than I did.” He paused. “Why didn’t you answer your cell phone?”
“Because I wanted some time alone so I could think about things.” She hung her head down. There was no way in hell that he would ever understand what she was going through. She had hoped that once or twice with Yuma Wolfe would be enough to satisfy her curiosity so that she could move on and find someone who would love her for who and what she was, but hell no. It just made everything worse. She wanted him more and loved him even more than that.
His huge arms wrapped around her, bringing her close against him. “Tell me what has you so worried, baby. I will help if I can.”
“You can’t help this time, Yuma.” She tried to keep the tears from falling, but still one or two managed to fall.
“Baby, I hate to see you hurting.” He leaned down to brush away the tears with his mouth. “I can listen if you want to talk.”
“That’s okay. I just need a ride home since Dad isn’t here.”
“Come on then. I’ll drive you home then leave since you have so much you need to think about, okay?” She gave him a shaky smile but nodded her response just the same. He kept an arm around her as they walked out to his car, and he gently set her inside. “Buckle up, baby.”
He drove her home, made sure she got in all right, and walked her into the house. “I need to give you something before I leave,” he gleefully told her as he sat down on her sofa.
“Okay.” She knew what he was going to give her, a big lecture. He’d had enough. It was fun, but it was back to reality for them. The “let’s keep it all work and no play” lecture. She moved closer to him.
Without any warning, he pulled her across his lap. Her skirt was lifted and her ass bared for him. “I owe you
