gasping for breath, unable to understand her reaction. His
words hammered in her brain. He’d called her passionate! Told her he wanted her and kissed her with a level of desire
she had never known from other men. Was she really capable of generating those feelings in him?… No! the rational
part of her mind screamed. It was all a trick! A new tactic to win her and the restaurants. She must not let herself be
fooled. But passion was turning out to be a heady thing, indeed.
„Something tells me your artist friend will soon be looking for a new bedmate,“ Logan announced, the male
satisfaction clear in his deep voice. „You’re not going to be content with him again, Hilary Forrester. And I have no
intention of letting you try to find with him what you’ve just found with me.“ The lids of the brilliant gray-green eyes
lowered until he was watching her with a curiously menacing expression.
„What…“ Hilary licked her dry lower lip and tried again, demanding in a small, defiant tone, „What makes you so
sure it’s not even better between Kevin and me?“
„So you admit that what we just experienced was good?“ he asked silkily, throwing her into utter confusion.
„Oh, you! That’s not what I meant at all and you know it!“
„Nevertheless, I’ll be happy to answer your question,“ he said, a flashing grin crossing his face. „It’s simple, really.
You’re too surprised by your own reaction. If you’d known such sensations before, you wouldn’t find yourself so
startled. And don’t bother denying that you’re taken back by the whole thing, honey. Your feelings are quite plain in
those beautiful eyes. Can you honestly tell me you want to go back to a lukewarm affair with Thorne?“
„Yes!“ she snarled, lying through her teeth and not caring in the least. „He, at least, doesn’t treat me as if I were a…
a thing to be possessed! And I know for a fact he doesn’t want Crawford’s restaurants!“
„You’re determined to be difficult about this, aren’t you?“ Logan sighed, shaking his head in a small gesture of
    resignation.
„You’re absolutely right I’m going to be difficult!“ Hilary gasped. „Beginning right now!“ With that she drew back
a sandal-clad toe and kicked him in the shin. A childish effort, she admitted at once to herself. But she had so few
weapons at her disposal and besides, the results proved enormously rewarding.
„What on earth…“ Logan released her immediately, stepping backward and grabbing automatically for his injured
leg. „You little devil,“ he began, massaging his shin for a moment before straightening and starting toward her in a
threatening fashion. „I ought to take you over my knee and wale the living daylights out of you!“
„What?“ she retorted scornfully, holding her ground. „Is that the best you can do? I’m crushed! After that
passionate little love scene? After all that garbage about being able to make me feel sensations I’ve never been
privileged to experience before you happened into my life? So much for the passionate lover, I guess. Surely a
genuinely passionate man who adored and desired me would not find himself in your position within seconds of
devastating me with a mere kiss?“ Hilary spoke fast, knowing she had to score her points quickly. Logan showed
every evidence of being quite willing to resort to brute force.
The momentary anger faded from his expression as Logan eyed her consideringly, not touching her. Slowly a rueful
grin curved the corners of his mouth as he stood contemplating her, his hands on his hips.
„It does sort of ruin the image, I’ll admit,“ he returned easily.
„Definitely,“ Hilary nodded vigorously. „The fact that you find yourself kicked in the shin by the woman who is
supposed to be melting in your arms and you respond by threatening to spank her leaves us with a whole new insight
into the situation. We must conclude that either I wasn’t swept off my
