head. “It can’t be legal.”
“We gave you a choice, Anna. I’ll give it to you again: Do you want to quit?”
“You can only post it to an internal site? For other managers?”
    Manager like Clarice Tolling?
“I can post it wherever I want, as long as it benefits Darco. I could sell it to the highest bidder and post it to every porn site on the Internet. But all I’m planning to do is put it on our internal site.”
He put the phone on the sidetable by the sofa and ran the tails of the Martinet along her thigh. “Unless you make me angry, of course.”
Anna gulped. An image of her mother seeing her sprawled over a piece of furniture, submitting, with her untied hands next to her head, on the Internet, or the pulp magazines at the grocery checkout, danced in her head.
“I’ll try not to make you angry.”
“You shouldn’t use the word ‘try’, Anna. Do or don’t do, never try.”
While Anna tried to understand what he meant, Caden Morning set the martinet between her widespread legs. Then he sat next to her and leaned over her body. He kissed her open lips while running the fingers of his left hand gentle between her legs. They became slick with her lubricating nectar. She kissed him back.
“Oh, dear,” she whispered. She gave her tongue free rein to play with his lips between words. “Please let me go and don’t hurt me, and I’ll submit to anything you want me to.”
In a low voice she had to strain to hear, he said, “You don’t understand me yet, my dear. What I like is hurting you. I know I can have you whenever I want, and you know it, too. But I’m going to punish you first, and I’m going to enjoy doing so. I’m going to see if you enjoy it, too. If you’re going to work out here, that is.”
“That’s what you do with girls you like.”
“Yes, yes, it is. And you understand your choice.” He resumed stroking her between her thighs, with a rising and falling motion, brushing her clit with each stroke.
He was such a confusing man. Earlier, he’d said they didn’t want employees who enjoyed physical punishment because then it wouldn’t work. The staff would keep getting in trouble if they welcomed the consequences. Now he wanted her to enjoy it.
“I can quit.” He’d said that before but she wanted to hear her choice again, to be sure she’d understood. “This isn’t just about my job, then?” She wished he’d give her clit more pressure.
“You work for me, Anna. You work for my company. It’s always about the job. You will bless my name if you stay here, and you will love me for who I am. Or you will curse me and quit. I’m the company and the company is me.”
“If I stay here, you’ll keep whipping me?” He slipped the tip of a finger inside her and swirled it around.
“I will. Frequently. I can’t help myself. When I see you in your office clothes, I want to take them off, tie you down, and make you scream.”
Anna looked at Caden Morning. His solid jaw, his inky hair with a touch of gray. The obvious lean muscles under his pin-striped shirt. She drew in a breath and he smelled of money, of power.
His hands kept working her, now brushing over her anus. If she quit, she wouldn’t find out his secret. There must be a way to get to him, to change him. All the many romance books she’d read said that a man who wanted you could be tamed, even if they started out a bit wild.
Even if they wanted to whip you every day?
Anna’s life without the job at Darco would be a living hell of menial work, bill collectors, her and her mother on the street, and the sacrifice of the moderate luxuries she consumed to assure herself she was at least lower middle class.
    “I’ll stay.”
    “Good. I’ll whip you then.”
He withdrew his fingers from their work between her legs and lifted the Martinet instead.
He slashed it over her thighs, first the left one, then the right, making thin, red lines. The sudden pain cut through her romantic fog like a knife. She
