fantastic together?â said Cheryl excitedly.
âWhat? I canât do that. How could I leave the lane?â said Dodgy Dave sadly.
âYou left the lane yesterday, Dodgy Dave. We can now travel the world: Rio, Vegas and Blackpool.â
âBut I couldnât possibly leave my friends.â
âYour friends?â said Cheryl impatiently âIf, by your friends, you mean the gang , well they left you .â
âBut I wonât know anyone.â
âYou know me, and Badger can visit us anytime, wherever we are, in his Wim-Wim.â
âIn his Wim-What?â
âNever mind! Iâll explain later. But now we must go, or weâll miss our chance,â said Cheryl tapping her tiny paw.
âWhat are you afraid of Dodgy Dave?â asked Badger kindly.
âWhat if Iâm not good enough?â answered Dodgy Dave.
Suddenly, Cheryl piped up, âRemember this?â and she held up his winning red rosette from the Hotpaws Barking Boogie .
Dodgy Daveâs eyes brightened and he smiled.
âHow did you get that? I thought the gang took it,â he asked.
âI found it! Just like we found each other,â squealed Cheryl, with outstretched paws.
âDo you really think we can make this work, Cheryl?â
âYou better believe it, Dodgy Dave. Come on!â
And Cheryl and Dodgy Dave danced out into the lane together.
Badger smiled, feeling in immediate need of some well-deserved toast.
As dusk fell, Anton Du Bark returned to the lane where Cherylâs Big Folk, Badger, the Alley Cats and even the sparrow were all assembled to wave them off. The gang, led now by Snif, skulked in the shadows.
âAt least thatâs Dodgy Dave off our patch now,â snarled Snif.
âDo you think we might see them on TV now that theyâre famous?â wondered Pogo Paws.
âPooperscoopersmellysnooper! I donât want to see them ever again,â barked Pickle.
âIâll quite miss Dodgy Dave,â said Lennie sadly.
âOh get a grip, Lennie,â snapped Snif, leading his gang away from the merriment. As Cheryl and Dodgy Dave stepped on to the waiting tour bus, everyone cheered. The snazzy sequins on Cherylâs pink collar sparkled, and the red rosette, pinned proudly to Dodgy Daveâs collar, shone.
As the bus trundled off, Badger headed for home, feeling very pleased with himself indeed.
Passing his garden fence, he spotted a poster for the Buddy Bites Doggy Delights tour with Cheryl and Dodgy Daveâs picture in a huge heart shape.
Suddenly, his tummy rumbled.
âTime for toast,â he smiled. âAnd about time, as this has been yet another Badgical Magical job well done!â
