on her wrist, shaking his head.
"You don't even know how to secure a prisoner properly. You're lucky she didn't kill you all. Get dressed," he said roughly. "No one wants to see your sickly pink ass hanging out all over the place."
"Go easy on the merchandise," said Zywth. "No marks."
"Yes, sir," said the Kerdim.
Tracy pulled on her shirt, pants, and sandals quickly. Everyone in the room was watching her. When she caught the Kerdim's eye, he growled at her.
"And you," said Zywth to Halc, "take me to the tracker scum. Now!"
"Yes, sir," said Halc unhappily. He had quickly adjusted to the new chain of command.
"Come along, whore," said the green man.
Tracy shot him a nasty look. This man wasn't like Rev at all.
Zywth couldn't stop giving orders. "Make sure your people are aware of who's in charge now," he said to Tul.
Tul couldn't get out of the room fast enough.
"Come on, Tev." said Zywth. "Stop worrying about the pink female. Let's get that tracker, he's the one that is worth a lot of money."
Tev?
Tracy's mind raced. Was this Rev's brother? What was he doing acting chummy with this nasty Zywth?
And why was he calling her a whore?
Something didn't make sense.
Tev grabbed her arm with a jerk, pulling her along. Halc led them through the corridors of the ship. At the end of the corridor, they took skinny metal stairs single file that led deeper down into the bowels of the ship. Tev walked behind her. Tracy heard him sniffing and felt his hot breath at her neck.
It creeped her out, but there was nothing she could do about it with criminals to the front and back of her.
As they walked through the ship, it grew darker and darker. Tracy found it difficult to make out the details around her and was confused about her actual location in the spacecraft; even if she escaped imprisonment, it would be hard for her to get out of here. It felt like it took forever to stop walking, but when they did, what she saw broke her heart.
In the hold, Rev was held spread eagled between thick chains that hung from the ceiling. His head lolled to the side.
"Rev!" she cried.
Tev marched up to Rev and smashed him in the gut with his fist. Rev opened his eyes, gasping at the blow.
"The bounty on your head requires you to be alive," Tev spit. "They're not going to care if you have any internal injuries."
"No, leave him alone!" Tracy rushed forward and launched herself at Tev, smashing her fists into his back, but she only met hard muscle. Her blows were useless. He swung her around and she struggled against him.
"YOU want to defend him against ME?" Tev laughed. He swung her around and gripped her arms tightly. He turned Tracy's head, forcing her to face Rev.
"Look at him now. Your mate. Is he not pitiful?"
Rage surged through Tracy, and she was about to let loose the one useful thing she learned in self-defense classes when she caught Rev's eye.
He winked at her.
Tracy's mind raced. She hoped this meant that Rev had a plan. Was this terrible situation merely a facade, an act for show? Suddenly she felt like everyone was watching her.
If it was an act, she was going to make it a good one.
She squirmed out of Tev's grasp. To add to the deception, she swung wildly at him, connecting with his jaw. That would serve him right for calling her a whore.
Tev's eyes widened in surprise, and then he laughed.
"Feisty pink one."
"My name is Tracy, you piece of filth."
"Enough of this. No one cares what your name is," said Zywth. "Let's move the tracker into our ship. Then we can get out of here and collect the payment."
Tev pushed Tracy toward the bulkhead. "Keep an eye on her." He moved to Rev and carefully loosened the restraints on his wrists.
"I hope you've made peace with whatever deity you worship," he said with a scowl.
"Screw you," said Rev.
"That's what I thought you'd say," said Tev. To everyone's surprise, in a single motion, he put a laser pistol in Rev's hand, and he pulled out another one from a fold in his
