“My father found me a suitor?”
“Sir Cade paid him a visit him when Noreen left yesterday morning after breakfast. Your suitor will be here shortly to go shooting with your father.” Katja folded her arms. She hated the news. She got up out of bed, determined to go yell at her father until he changed his mind. “Sir Cade isn’t here, Miss Katja. He knew you would put up a fight and left before you woke. I have to dress you or he’ll take it out on my hide.” Katja hung her head, and looked at the mess of blankets where Felix had slept last night. She wondered where he was or if he knew. One thing was certain, he didn’t wake her as he told her he would.
“Where is my slave? He should be here.”
    “He’s out chopping wood.”
“Why is he chopping wood? That isn’t his job.”
“Letting off some steam I guess. He’s in a foul mood.” Annett said.
“Annett.” Katja pouted, and waited for her servant to meet her eye. The woman was like a mother to her, raised her as a daughter, and understood her better than even her father. “What should I do? I don’t want to be married off to some stranger. I don’t love him.”
“You need to be careful, Katja. Get that boy out of your head or you’ll be miserable every day you’re with Sir Cragged!” Annett said with concern.
“What boy?” Katja asked, but Annett missed little. She simply wished the older woman hadn’t noticed her watch him.
“You sent me from the room to be alone with him. It’s immoral to sleep with a man before marriage. It’s shameful. You’re father would never allow you to ruin his reputation. Be careful, Katja, or you’ll dig yourself a hole you can’t get out of.”
“I’m not sleeping with him!” She lied.
“Good. Then let’s get you dressed.”
Katja took a deep breath, feeling deflated and trapped. She inspected the dress Annett planed for her to wear for Sir Cragged. Putting the dress on made her hot, and feel as if the walls were closing in on her. The corset was too tight, and she could hardly breathe. Somehow, the dress felt like a coffin. The last thing she wanted was to get married, but arranged unions happened within days. There was no getting out of it.
She adorned in gems and silk before she waited for her father and suitor in the drawing room. She wasn’t waiting long before the front door slammed. She turned the page in the book she absentmindedly pretended to read, when Felix strode inside in a brisk walk. Her eyes followed him, but when he turned his head at the last second, he saw her and stopped. With a few long steps, he entered the room.
He rushed to her, still in his temper. Visions of him in her bed the night before entertained her libido for a split second, and her own lust for him surprised her. His eyes were somehow more intensely gray, and his handsome face fascinated her. She had feelings for him she couldn’t ignore, but she wasn’t exactly sure what they were.
He reached out, put his hands on the armrests of her chair, and quickly leaned down to kiss her. She once again shocked herself by opening her mouth for him, welcoming her slave’s tongue. With eagerness, she met his deep kiss by drawing her tongue across his. He devoured her with a perfectly wet kiss before biting her lip softly. His teeth skimmed her delicately before he gently tugged on her lips while he pulled out of the kiss. She loved how he kissed her as if he had every right to claim her. Before she wished, he pulled away several inches and stopped taking her mouth. With stern eyes, and a demanding, husky tone, he asserted, “Send him away, Katja, or I’ll make damn sure this union is over before he does any real damage.”
“I can’t send him away. There is no reasoning with my father when his peers are watching. I won’t challenge him, or he will only be more firm and I’d be black and blue.”
“Then you leave me no choice. My plan has changed, and I will have you for myself. I refuse to share you.”
