you!” I warned loudly.
“I just said he doesn't control me anymore,” Dorian snapped. “The Vlodik are my clan now, and that means they are yours as well.”
No matter how hard I tugged against his henchmen’s grasp, I couldn't break free. He was just so strong. All that new found health I had gained lately wasn't enough to overcome his hard hands squeezing my forearms.
“How could you do this? How could you betray your father like this?” I demanded, hoping to remind him of where his loyalty should lie.
“He betrayed me first!” Dorian roared. “He should have hunted you and Markus down the moment you disappeared. Instead he said let it be, like I didn't matter at all. You're mine, and you're not going to disrespect me by abandoning me for my brother.”
“Dorian you've lost your mind,” I screamed. “Markus will never stand for this!”
When I felt the sharp, swift smack across my face I was genuinely shocked. Dorian had never lifted a finger against me. Sure, he had tried to persuade me to mate quite a few times sometimes a little more forcefully than he should have, but never had he physically hurt me. When I opened my eyes from the pain, I saw him in an entirely new light. He wasn't the same, drunk Dorian I knew who tried to get his way with me but gave up when I resisted. He was stone cold sober, and he was determined to make me his. And this time, he was not taking no for an answer.
“Markus has no say in any of this,” he said calmly. “Now, keep your voice down. You're making this much harder than it has to be.”
“You can't possibly believe that the Vlodiks are going to be your new clan. They're monsters!” As I tried to wrest myself away from the henchmen, one of the other weremen with him grabbed my arm.
“Hey, watch it,” the beefy man snarled. “Don't speak against the clan.”
“It's not my clan,” I hissed as I tried to stomp on his foot. He quickly moved out of the way.
“It is now,” Dorian insisted. “My father tried it his way. He had all of those rules he demanded everyone follow, but when it came down to it, he let his precious son break them. He's a hypocrite, and so is Markus. Can't you see that he's not worth your time, Kristen?” he asked with a hint of hurt in his voice. “So, I made some mistakes. But you chose me!” he reminded me.
“I made a mistake,” I breathed out, suddenly aware that my situation was hopeless. “I made a mistake,” I repeated.
“We'll see if you're still saying that later,” Dorian said in a murmur as he cupped my cheek. “You just need a little time to get used to the idea. You belong with me Kristen, and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to show you that.”
“Then let me go,” I whispered as I looked up at him. “If you really care about me, then just let me go.”
“No,” he shook his head. “I can't do that. I care for you more than you know Kristen, but right now you're too foolish and too blind to realize how much. So, I have to make the right choice for you. I have to teach you.”
My heart sank at his words. I could see in his hardened eyes that he really believed this. He nodded at the man who was holding me. The man started to drag me off to the side of the road, towards a waiting truck.
“No, No, No!” I started to panic and fought back against him again.
“Stop, Kristen,” Dorian warned, “don't act like a child.”
Would I ever see Markus again? If they got me in the truck, I didn't think so. I felt like there was only one thing I could do. I still didn't have as much control as I should have, but I had to try. I threw my head back and howled as loudly as I could. At the same time, I felt the change power through me, transforming my body from the inside out. I was starting to shift when I felt hot hands around my throat.
“No you don't,” Dorian growled as he glared into my eyes. “You're not escaping me this time.”
My body ached with the need to finish the change, but with Dorian
