After scooping up the scorpion and slipping it back into the small container, Demi took off Troy’s shirt and unfastened his pants. To anyone peeking into the room, he would look like he’d passed out from drinking too much. Long before anyone tried to wake him, the venom would have killed him. The rise in his skin told her that it was working its’ way through his veins to his heart.
Demi messed up her hair and walked out of the studio like she was a bit under the influence of consuming alcohol, passing several men who watched her go, nodding in approval. They called typical ghetto slang that she hated—“Yo, girl!” and “Wha’ up, Mama?” and “Le’ me get a taste of that! I bit that bitch got some fire ass pussy!”— Until she was out of sight. One man at least had the taste to call, “those are some nice shoes, ma,” and she acknowledged him with a smile.
‘Poor Troy ’ , she thought as she walked out of the building. He’d never had a chance. He was now out of her life too. She did not have to worry about him hurting her again. But she did wonder how his parents would take the news of his untimely death. They were good people. Too bad their son wasn’t.
Once in her car, Demi took her first deep breath. The entire walk back through the studio, she had been holding her breath. The air felt good feeding her lungs. She took several more breaths before putting the keys into the ignition and leaving Troy’s home forever. Another name gone from her list, but several more remained. Troy Dunbar would never make a fool out of her or anyone else again. Although he had been her first true love, he was lifeless now, just as she wanted.
Putting the car in gear, Demi headed toward O’Hare International Airport. She still had time to make her flight. Tomorrow she would see another person from her past, and she couldn’t explain why, but she looked forward to it. Her heart still felt sparks just at the mere thought of the next name on her list. Makei Davis was in for a rude awakening, one that would be his last . ‘Maybe she would just fuck him before fucking him’ , Demi thought.

    Chapter 5

MAKEI DAVIS was one of the most highly paid athletes in professional football. Being a first-round draft pick from Notre Dame had a lot to do with it. He was handsome, charming, intelligent, and had a body made of pure steel. Superman would be jealous of Makei’s chest, arms, legs, and back. Women, and a few men, drooled over him.
Demi met him in a grocery store one night when she’d traveled to San Francisco on business. He was buying cough medicine because he was suffering from a serious head cold, while she was looking for anything to relieve flu symptoms: aching pains all over her body, as well as sneezing, coughing, congestion and fever.
He looked horrible and Demi felt terrible. She still managed to put on a pair of stilettos, which was one of the reasons Makei noticed her. He told her later that he admired a woman who cared about her appearance even when sick with the flu. They both reached for the same cough medicine at the same time. Makei was a gentleman, allowing her to take the last bottle while he settled for the store brand. They made small talk as they picked up other things like tissues, Vicks Vapor rub, and cough drops.
The next day, Demi was lying in bed when there was a knock on her hotel door. Annoyed, she yanked open the door, and was surprised when a bellhop handed her a bouquet of yellow roses and a bottle of flu medicine with a purple ribbon tied around it. The bouquet looked like at least two dozen roses and the card simply read: get
