heaven…
    She
smiled sweetly at me.
    “I
had the most amazing night. I still can’t believe I got to see Demon’s Wings so
close. It almost doesn’t feel real.”
    “They
rocked that fucking stage for sure,” I said.
    “Yeah,
especially Jesse Thornton. He’s so amazing on those drums.”
    “Hey
now, I thought I was your favorite drummer,” I laughed, taking her pillow and
lightly hitting her with it.
    She
took her pillow back and stuck her tongue out at me as she tucked it under her
head.
    With
her voice barely above a whisper, she sighed and said, “Kris, you know you will
always be my favorite.”
    I
know I told Jessie that the kiss was no big deal and to forget it but I
couldn’t. I had to talk to her about it and now was the perfect time. We were
here, alone, in a hotel room with nothing but the night ahead of us. Even if
she rejected me, I had to know how she felt.
    “Jessie,
I know I said to forget the kiss but I’ve put myself out there and we are going
to be sleeping next to each other all night with hardly any clothes on. I need
to know where I stand with you.”
    Her
cheeks were turning a beautiful shade of pink and I could see her pulse
fluttering in her neck. She started to breathe heavy and she licked her lips
lightly.
    “Kris,
I…I have to tell you something. It’s big and I’m having a hard time getting it
out.”
    I
reached up and tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear.
    “Whatever
it is, tell me. I can handle it.”
    I
won’t lie; I was nervous as fuck about what she was going to say. I’d kissed
her and confessed how I felt and this was when she was going to tell me that
she either only saw me as a friend or she’d already met someone else.
    She
took a deep breath and said so quietly, “When you kissed me…I, uh…”
    “Yeah?”
I asked, my heart pounding rapidly.
    I
could see her blushing even in the dark.
    “I
liked it.”
    Relief
washed through me like a tidal wave. I couldn’t stop the smile on my face and
my fingers instinctively traced the curve of her cheek.
    “You
did?”
    She
looked down and started twisting the top of the blanket.
    “Of
course I did. In fact I…I’ve wanted…ugh, man, why is this so hard for me to
say?”
    I
lifted her chin gently with my index finger, forcing her eyes to meet mine.
    “Jess,
this is me. You can tell me anything. Don’t be afraid.”
    Jess
blew a nervous breath through her lips.
    “I’ve
wanted you to kiss me for a long time. Like, a really long time.”
    I
blinked in surprise and smiled wider.
    “You
have?”
    She
nodded and said, “I’ve been in love with you ever since I first saw you.”
    Her
confession knocked the wind out of me. Holy fuck …she’s been in love with
me since she was five years old?
    “W-whoa.
Jess, why didn’t you say anything?”
    “Because
I was afraid to,” she answered timidly. “You never seemed like you were into me
anyway because you had all of your girlfriends following you around. You just
said it yourself. You were only starting to look at me differently lately. If I
had admitted I loved you before that you would have been freaked out and you
know it. You would have been all uncomfortable being around me and then you
would have started to distance yourself and I would have been alone. Keeping
quiet kept you in my life.”
    I
scooted closer to her and was feeling myself getting aroused from the heat of
her body being so close.
    “Nothing
would have kept me out of your life, Jess. Hell, the guys have been teasing me
for years that you had a crush on me but I never listened to them because you
had a pretty good way of hiding it.”
    “Well,
I’m not anymore. Before I came out here I told myself that I wasn’t going to hide
my feelings for you any longer and whatever happens from here on out I am ready
for it.” She reached out and touched my bare chest with her shaking hand and
whispered, “I love you Kris.”
    Her
confession hit me straight in the chest. She loved me…I
