and didn’t
know what to think of her. He thought that they had shared something more than
sex. But the cold stare in her eyes told him he was wrong. He was just about to
step out when a woman stepped into the door. He didn’t see her face first, but
her breasts were the first thing he caught sight of. Without thinking he said,
“Now I remember you, Jessie .”
“You didn’t even look at her face,” Marietta hissed
out.
Tobias turned his head to face her then shrugged.
“You recognized her breasts?” She shook her head as if
she was disappointed. “So you too have slept with him?”
“What do you mean by me too?” Jessie looked back and
forth between the two of them, but the sly smile on Tobias’ face was what told
her what happened. “You are a dog, you know that?”
Tobias had been called worse. He shrugged his
shoulders and moved closer to Marietta. She took a step back with each step he
took towards her. But soon there was nowhere for her to go. She was trapped between the wall and his muscled frame. She put her hands
against his chest, ready to push him away if she needed to. He stroked her face
and ran his fingers through her hair. He lowered his lips to her forehead and
kissed her. Then without a word he left.
“What was that?” Jessie asked as she stepped into the
room and closed the door.
“You tell me, you already had a ride on the sex
train.” Marietta dropped on the bed frustrated with herself .
“The most I got was an, ‘I’ll call you’ as he shooshed me out of his room. He kissed you.” Marietta
didn’t understand why Jessie sounded so amazed.
“He kissed me and drove me to the edge of insanity.”
“I think he likes you.”
“No, he just wanted to make sure he had a perfect
score.” Marietta rubbed her face as if trying to get rid of imaginary dirt .“Any messages for me?”
“Yep, McKenzie has summoned the cast and some of the
crew to dinner tonight. We are supposed to meet him at the restaurant this
evening.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know, but I will bring my pen and notebook.”
Jessie opened the door and just before she left she said, “Take a bath, and
drown your shame with booze, it helped me.”
“Nothing will wash this shame off me.” Once she was
left alone, Marietta ate her food. She didn’t want to spend more time at the
restaurant than she needed to. She knew Tobias would be at the meeting, and she
wanted to spend as little time with him as possible.
Chapter
Three
Marietta was a nervous wreck as they headed to the
elevator. What was the proper or, politically correct way, to behave around a
guy you shamelessly surrendered to at a moment of weakness? She was determined
to stay as far away from Tobias as she possibly could. The elevator doors
opened and just as she was about to step inside she saw Peter, Sarah and
Tobias. Sarah was hugging Tobias’ arm in a clingy undesirable way.
“In or out?” Sarah asked.
Marietta raised her gaze from where Sarah held on to
Tobias, to Tobias face and for a second she could swear he looked apologetic.
“Out, we’ll catch the next one.”
She stepped back and let the doors close. Marietta
stared at her feet unable to look her assistant in the eyes. And when Jessie
decided to rub her back in comfort she broke down. She didn’t know why she was
crying but for some bizarre reason she felt heartbroken. Marietta bent over so
that her tears could fall out of her sockets and on the ground and not on her
freshly applied mascara. When the elevator came back up, she shook herselfsober and stepped into it.
“In and out. In and out,” she
chanted to herself as she walked towards the restaurant like a sheep towards
its slaughter. She groaned when the memory of Tobias going in and out of her
body clouded her mind.
“What are you chanting?” Jessie hissed at her.
“I’m just telling myself that as soon as McKenzie says
whatever he wants to I am getting out.”
“You just had sex, Marietta.
