finished, moaning the entire way. The air left his lungs as he came inside me, his dick throbbing. He pressed his face into my neck, catching his breath and clutching me to his chest tightly.
“I love you forever,” he whispered.
“I love you too.” I turned to look at him but his eyes were closed. I was certain he had already fallen asleep. I lied there and cuddled next to him, letting his scorching body keep me warm. His skin was always on fire, as hot as the sun. When I pictured our life together, I knew it would be this way. We would cuddle every night after we made love, we would argue and bicker about things out of our control, and we would fight then makeup again. It sounded so perfect. But why was my heart beating so fast like I was frantic? Why was I scared?
I fell asleep, but opened my eyes when my phone vibrated on my nightstand. I didn’t know what time it was. I grabbed it and looked at the screen. It was Cortland.
U awake?
I looked at the time. It was only ten. Now I felt old. Yes .
Can we talk?
Now?
Why else would I ask if you’re awake?
Is this Ryan?
LOL. Outside?
K. Be there soon.
I returned my phone to the nightstand then slid from Sean’s embrace. He was so tired from the heat and the sun that he didn’t stir. He hugged the pillow instead. I pulled on Sean’s basketball shorts and shirt that he left on the floor then walked into the hallway.
Cortland was standing there, difficult to make out in the darkness.
“What’s going on?” I asked.
“Do they have an alarm?” Cortland asked.
“I don’t think so.”
“Let’s go in the back, then.”
He turned down the hallway and I followed him. We walked through the living room, careful not to knock anything over, and made it outside to the back patio. The sound of the ocean played on my ears. The wind blew through my hair.
“So, what’s up?” I asked.
“I talked to Monnique.”
“And?”
“She said yes.”
“Are you serious?” I jumped on my heels and almost screamed. “That’s so great.”
“Yeah.”
“ I’m surprised she went for it.”
He shrugged. “I can be very persuasive.”
I rolled my eyes. “No, what really happened?”
“Hey. I have some good move s. You’ve seen them in action.”
“They weren’t good enough to persuade me to move across the country.”
“Well, maybe if I had a few more tries…”
“Spill it.”
“The job opportunity is what convinced her. When I told her what you and Sean would be offering me, she said it would stupid to turn it down.”
“Yes!”
“Then we had the marriage talk. She said she wouldn’t move with me unless I was intending to pop the question.”
“That sounds like an awkward conversation.”
“It wasn’t. I just didn’t want to give anything away. I said I was excited to get married. I was just waiting for the right time.”
“So this is really happening? We’re moving to New York?”
“It looks that way.”
“I’m so happy. Everything is working out perfectly.”
“Did Ryan tell Janice yet?”
“I don’t know. Text him and tell him to meet us.”
“Okay.” He pulled out his phone and sent the message. “I have a feeling he isn’t going to be so eager to leave his room in the middle of the night.”
“He’ll get over it.”
Ryan opened the back door a few moments later, a look of murder on his face. “What’s so important? I have a naked girl waiting for me upstairs.”
“She’s always naked,” Cortland said.
“And she’s always waiting for you,” I said.
Cortland elbowed him. “If you’re important, she’ll wait. If not, well…she might get started without you.”
Ryan shook his head. “She knows I can do it better.”
“Did you talk to Janice?” I asked.
“That’s what this is about? It really couldn’t wait until tomorrow?”
“Did you?” I pressed.
“Yes, I did.”
“What did she say?”
“She says she’ll do whatever I want, but she would like to live closer to her
