â I didnât remember ,â I said. âI have no idea what the circumstances were around that flashback; I have no memory of him trying to date me. All I can remember is the terror and revulsion I felt towards him.â I shivered and hugged myself. âUgh, the idea of him even touching me freaks me out.â
âSome of the damage Kitty did to you may be permanent,â LK said. âItâs likely lost memories will continue to surface for the rest of your life.â He pulled a notepad and a pen towards him and flipped the pad open.
âThey were filling me with demon essence in preparation for having a child with him,â I said. âA child like Tom.â I turned to Ben. âYou and I have something in common; something that makes us different, andsomething these demons know about. I canât wait to find Kitty Kwok Ho Man Yee and have a very serious talk with her.â
âYou need to track down whether you have any common ancestry or heritage and go find what it is,â LK said, scribbling notes on the pad.
âWhere in Wales are you from?â I asked Ben.
âCardiff, but my family originally came from the town of Holyhead. Itâs spelt âHolyâ but pronounced âHollyâ. Itâs on an island off the west coast of Wales called Holy Island.â
âIf that isnât the perfect name for the home of Shen then I canât think of one,â Ronnie said.
âI wonder where my ancestors came from,â I said.
âIf they didnât come from the same place I will be very surprised indeed,â Ronnie said. âIâd love to come along if you go. Iâve never been that far from my Centre and Iâd like to see how long I could handle it.â
âDeal,â I said.
âMe too,â LK said, underlining a couple of points on his notes, then peering at Tom. âIf thereâs any new demons there, I want to see.â
âIâll take you,â Ben said. âThere are so many strange things on that island â ancient ruins, mystical stones â Iâd love to show them to you.â
âStone, find a week to clear in my diary,â I said. âI have to go.â
âGive me some time to rearrange your appointments,â the stone said. âMight be best to do it during term break.â
âIs there a village there? High up on a hill, with thatched cottages and lawns with low walls and flower gardens?â I said.
âNo,â Ben said. âThere is a small group of houses high up on Holy Mountain, but no thatching any more, itâs too expensive to maintain.â
âThere really is a group of houses up on the mountain?â I said, incredulous.
âYes. Itâs called Mountain,â Ben said.
âThe village is called Mountain?â
âWelcome to Wudang Mountain,â LK said with humour, still taking notes. âWhich is also known as the Mountain.â
âSo many coincidences,â Tom said.
âNo such thing,â I said. âAre you done yet, LK?â
âNearly. This has been most interesting,â LK said, scribbling a few final points on the notepad.
Tom stared at LK. âYouâve been examining me this whole time?â
âThat I have,â LK said. He pushed the pad away and focused on Tom. âYou are fascinating, sir. If you donât mind, Iâd like to have a brief look inside as well.â
âInside?â Tom said.
âInside your head,â I said. âHeâll flip through your thoughts and memories. Itâs an excellent way to see exactly what makes someone tick, but an unfortunate side effect is that they see everything else as well. You canât hide anything from them. You can trust LK to keep everything in confidence, but itâs still up to you.â
âDad?â Tom said.
Ben nodded. âThey might as well, son.â
âTheyâll see,
