night , Seth. ”
“Good night , rabbit. ” Seth waited, turning only when he hear d her turn the lock on the door, before walking to his house.

He watched as the Trooper walked up the front walkway and knocked on her door .  Frowning , he realized that t his could be a problem he had not counted on.   His eyes closing to slits , fixating on the two holding their conversation while his body stiffen ing when he saw the cop reach ing out to touch her.  How dare he!   She did not open the door completely for him, but the fact that she even answered it caused a sick , jealous rage to rush through him.  He needed release from this pent up frustration , and he was not sure he would be able to wait for her.  Maybe, he thought, he could find a substitute again until she was ready for him .  He smiled in the darkness as the thought took form and expanded. That is it…h e would practice on someone else again to get it down perfectly.  Waiting with indulgent patience, he watched as the Trooper walked to his house and the lights turn off before starting the van and pulling away .

CHAPTER 5
Charles’ voice boomed over the line.  “Personally, if I was you, and obviously I am not, I would bake that man some cookies , brownies, anything .  It would have to be s omething sweet and decadent , because how sweet was that that he came to check on you at 4:00 am ? ”
“ Really , Charles ?  It wasn’t sweet.  I am up all of the time working late at night.  I can’t have people knocking on my door ; it scared me.”
“He was worried….I think that is sexy - just saying.”
Al ex silently agreed with Charles .  Seth had looked very sexy in full uniform but was not ready to admit that , even to her best friend , otherwise he would never stop.”
“ I am telling you, b ake our man c ookies.”
Alex laugh ed .  “I am not baking him cookies.”
Charles feigned shock and disappointment . “ Y ou’re not being very neighborly.  Y ou know what ? Forget I said anything. I’ll bake him cookies.”   W ith that, Charles hung up.
Continuing to smile, Alex carried her laptop out to the patio to write.  She liked days like today.  The sun shining brightly , the air not too warm , she was feeling good and motivated.   The lack of sleep did not seem to affect her at all.   Even the sounds of hammering next door did not bother her , and eventually, she did not even hear the noises of construction as she re-entered her fantasy world.
It was several hours before she lifted her eyes from the pages on her screen.  Stretching her arms up over her head to rel ie ve the tightness in her neck while glancing at the computer screen , she yawned .  S he was proud of the progress she made with her book , but i t was time to take a break .   Realizing that the hammering had stopped, she thought of her conversation with Charles.  Maybe he was right.  Maybe she was not being very neighborly and should bring Seth a peace offering.  It had nothing to do of course with wanting to see him again. It was the neighborly thing to do.  Before she lost her courage, she ran into the house searching her cabinet for cookies .  Arranging them on a plate before covering it in plastic wrap , she looked down at her hastily made gift grimac ing .  “You are pathetic Alex , and Charles would definitely not approve . ” Shrugging , she lifted the plate , and as an afterthought , grabbed a couple of cold water bottles f ro m the refrigerator . Reaching the fence, she hesitated as the doubts invaded her mind .  Should she knock or just walk in ?   Hesitating, she cursed as one of the water bottle slipped out of her hand. She bent down
