handy for future use, because he had not doubt he’d be using them again to beat some stubborn heads in. He also knew that for now, he’d stick around. What tomorrow held, who knew? He’d just have to take it day by day.
In the meantime, he had a kitchen to clean. Looking around the mess in the kitchen, Keeley could only shake his head. It was going to take him at least an hour to get it cleaned up. He might as well get started.

“Fuck, man, why didn’t you warn me that Keeley had a temper?” Devlin said as he sat down beside Reece on the front steps, rubbing his sore head.
“You mean you didn’t pick up on that last night?” Reece asked in mock surprise.
“Sorry, dude, I was too busy admiring the view.”
“Shut up before I hit you again. You’re not supposed to be admiring anything on my mate,” Reece growled.
“Well, if he didn’t keep putting it all out on display—”
“Devlin,” Reece growled again.
“I’m only saying—”
“I know what you’re saying, but you try asking that man to wear clothes. You saw what happened when I did it,” Reece replied.
“No, I saw what happened when you yelled at him. You didn’t ask him anything,” Devlin stated firmly as he looked over at Reece. “In fact, in the two times I’ve seen him, I heard about three sentences come out of your mouth where you weren’t yelling at him. The rest of the time you’re either shouting or carrying him off somewhere.”
Reece could feel his face heat up at Devlin’s admonishment. He knew he probably deserved it, but no one liked to be told that they were wrong or had behaved badly, especially not him.
“Have you claimed him yet?” Devlin asked after a few moments.
“Yeah, a few times. That seems be the only time we’re not arguing,” Reece said.
“What did you think of it?”
Reece chuckled, resting his elbows on his knees and clasping his hands together, letting them hang between his legs. He looked up at the bright blue sky, inhaling deeply, then slowly letting it out. “Un-fucking-believable.”
“Yeah, I always thought so, too,” Devlin said.
Reece’s forehead wrinkled up as a sudden thought hit him. Was Devlin concerned how he would react if he brought a man home? They had never discussed Devlin’s sexual preference but it had never really mattered to Reece. He turned to look at his best friend and beta. “Why have you never brought anyone home? Were you afraid of how I’d react?”
“No. I just never met anyone I cared enough about to bring home. I’m hoping that I have a mate out there somewhere, waiting for me to find him. And I sure as hell hope it’s a him.”
“And if it’s not?” Reece asked curiously.
Devlin shrugged his wide shoulders. “I guess I’ll deal with it just as you have.”
“Good god, don’t do that,” Reece grumbled. “I haven’t handled this well at all.”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m pretty sure I’ve totally fucked things up with Keeley, and I haven’t got a clue how to fix it,” Reece said sadly.
“What did you do? More yelling?”
“No, I just wish it was that easy. Last night Keeley was joking around and I took it the wrong way. When he tried to apologize I wouldn’t let him. I basically ignored him for the rest of the night. To tell you the truth, I was surprised he was still here this morning.”
“What did he say that made you so upset?”
“It was stupid,” Reece said, looking back down at his hands.
“So? It obviously upset you. What did he say?”
“While we were having sex I made him admit that he was my mate. Afterwards, when I reminded him of it, he laughed and told me he had said it under duress.”
“I can see where that might upset you,” Devlin said. “I think I would have been upset, too.”
Reece nodded. Keeley’s words had made him upset. They had hurt. He had thought that their time together then had been special, something he knew he had never experienced with another living being.
