was
completely awake now and he knew he wouldn’t be going back to sleep
anytime soon. He got up and just went to the door as he was, in a
pair of sleep pants sans a shirt. He wore more than most men did so
too bad if anyone had a problem with it. Slay was a sought after
bachelor still in his prime. He might not be a god, but he worked
out and looked pretty good if he did say so himself.
He pulled the door open and Hades blundered
in after him. “We’ve been out here twenty minutes,” he huffed. His
face was slightly red and he looked pissed off. Too bad.
“I need my beauty sleep. An old married man
like you wouldn’t understand,” Slay said. Hercules and Eres
guffawed. Lu just smiled like he wanted to add something but
restrained himself, barely.
Hades shot Slay an angry look but Doc touched
his arm gently and he relaxed. “We’re just concerned about our god,
your sister, and the kids,” Doc said. “We’ve seen things and we
don’t want to see anything like that again.”
“I understand, but we can’t do a thing until
she calls and there’s no way of knowing when that’ll be.”
“Why don’t you show me to your kitchen, I’ll
make some coffee and breakfast if you’ve got anything for it,” Doc
said. Hades followed after them as if he was unwilling to let her
out of his sight. Slay could understand that, the doc was one
attractive lady. He’d keep a close eye on her too if she was
his.
Half an hour later, he added good cook and
diplomat to her list. They sat around and talked, he found out she
really was a doctor, intelligent and skilled, too. He never met
women like her, the gods must have them all. He liked the way Hades
took care of Doc. He hoped Morpheus was like that too. His baby
sister needed to be around a gentleman after that asshole she’d
been married to. The only good thing about the bastard was he’d
given her two little angels. He loved his niece and nephew,
wouldn’t mind having more of them either, if she found the right
man.
The phone rang and he hurried to answer it.
Just the usual business, he was disappointed El hadn’t called yet.
Her manners were usually better than this. She had to know he was
worried about half out of his mind by now. Another call, same old
stuff, he usually didn’t get these calls so early. He was starting
to worry, he had no way of finding her if she was in trouble.
This time the phone rang and it was El. “I’m
putting you on speaker phone, Sis. There’s some people here who
said you contacted them about Morpheus. One’s called Hades, he says
he knows Morpheus well.”
“Wait, I need to get Morpheus in here, he’s
playing with the kids. He’ll need to hear this.” He could hear her
talking to someone, but he couldn’t make out the words. “Okay,
we’re back and on speaker too.”
    “Morpheus?” Hades asked.
“Hades, my brother, is it really you?”
“It is and Lu, Hercules, Eres, and my mate
are with me too. We need to get you so we can take you home.”
“You have a mate? I have one too and I can’t
go anywhere without her.” There was a gasp on the other side.
“You have a mate?” It was El doing the
asking.
“Yes, you are my mate,” Morpheus said.
    El sputtered, “But…we’ve just met.”
“My people know almost instantly and you are
mine. It’s that simple.”
“You’re dealing with humans, nothing’s that
simple,” the one called Lu said with a smirk. Doc smacked him on
the arm. “No insult intended. It’s always complicated between
humans and gods.” Doc didn’t answer. Maybe he was right?
“Let’s figure this out later. Right now we
need to meet with you so we can work this out face to face. We’ll
be able to give you protection.”
“What do you want to do, meet somewhere?” El
asked.
“No, I think it’s better if you wait there
for us. Give us your city and when we get closer you can tell us
exactly where you are. It’s safer that way.”
She gave them their general location.
