goes on, doesnât it?â Frank said.
âGuess so!â Joe said. âThis party was planned before the Winstonâs robbery, so I guess that Elisabeth didnât see any reason to cancel it.â
âI wonder where Chet, Tony, and Matt are,â Frank said.
âIf we find the food, weâll find Chet,â Joe said,âand if Tony and Matt arenât with him, he can probably tell us where they are.â
âWe may have to dance our way there, Joe,â Frank said as he surveyed the barrier of people in front of them.
âHey! Thereâs nothing wrong with that,â Joe said. âLetâs do it!â
Frank and Joe plunged into the crowd. By the time they finally reached a long buffet table, they had each danced with several girls and had been invited to a monthâs worth of parties all around the Philadelphia area.
âWhew!â Frank said. He took out a handkerchief and wiped his brow. âThat was more exhausting than a 5K.â
âYeah,â Joe said. He surveyed the array of food. âI think I worked up a hearty appetite.â
âMe too,â Frank said. He picked up a plate. âYou know, Iâm surprised Chet isnât standing here.â
âIâm not,â Joe said. âThis place is huge, so there are probably many more tables of food strategically placed.â
âYouâre right,â Frank agreed. He helped himself to some chips and a delicious-looking artichoke and spinach dip. âMmm! This is really good. I think Iâm . . .â He stopped in mid-sentence. âLook, Joe. Thereâs Elisabeth von Battenberg, and that guy sheâs with looks familiar.â
Joe looked. âIsnât he one of the acrobats from High-Wire Troupe B?â he said.
âItâs hard to tell with the strobe lights,â Frank said.
âWell, I think he is,â Joe said, âand it looks like he and Elisabeth are arguing about something.â
âI say we go check it out, Joe,â Frank said. âIf it is one of those acrobats from High-Wire Troupe B, Iâd like to hear his excuse about why they didnât perform tonight.â
The Hardy boys handed their plates to a server and once again plunged into the crowd.
Several times they were stopped by girls wanting to dance with them, but Frank and Joe both managed to make sure that while they were dancing, they were still heading toward Elisabeth and the Aérocirque acrobat. But when they finally reached Elisabeth, the acrobat had disappeared.
Elisabeth gave them a big smile. âOh, you made it! Iâm delighted.â
âYes! Itâs some party!â Frank said.
âI was afraid you might find the Winstonâs apartment more interesting,â Elisabeth said. She gave them a playful pout. âI would have been really disappointed if one of my parties had come in second to a robbery.â
Joe looked around. âFrank and I thought we saw some of the Aérocirque acrobats here talking to you,â he said.
Elisabeth looked puzzled. âOh, really? No, but Daddy may have let them know they were welcome to come to the party, so some of them could be here,â she said, once again giving them a wide smile. âI havenât seen any of them.â She grabbed Frankâs arm. âCome on. I want to introduce the famous Hardy boys around,â she said. âAlmost every girl here is from a family worth millions of dollars. Itâll be worth your while!â Elisabeth stopped. âSee that girl with the really red hair?â
Frank and Joe looked.
âNow, thatâs red hair,â Frank said.
âItâs her natural color, too,â Elisabeth said. âThatâs Julia Baker. Sheâs the heiress to the Baker fortune. Theyâre in oil. Sheâs worth almost a billion dollars.â
âWow!â Joe said.
âThat blonde with her is Gretchen Wall. Her family is almost as
