Fiona.
    ‘ Why?’
    ‘ What
else am I going to do? Wait here to die?’
    ‘ You
are safe here,’ I countered.
    ‘ Say
it like you mean it. You even said it yourself. It is only a matter
of time before those things get in. I would rather go out fighting.’
    ‘ We
will most likely die.’
    ‘ I
know, but I think I will enjoy spending my last few hours with you,
especially if you take me like that again.’ We both laughed.
Fiona was the one to return to the matter at hand. ‘You know
this base is actually a training facility for players. This is one of
those training levels in the game. Players can come here to rack up
credits and experience points. There is a bullet train that is linked
to the central city. That is where Prisoner X is. We can ride it
straight to him.’
    ‘ I
plan to leave after I speak with my sister.’
    ‘ I
will be waiting for you in the train.’
    I
don’t know why, but I kind of liked the idea of having Fiona
come along with me.
    For
once I wouldn’t have to do something alone.
    ‘ What
did you go down for?’ I had to know.
    ‘ Cop
killer.’
    She
smirked at my surprised expression.
    ‘ How
and why?’
    ‘ It
was a failed bank robbery. Off duty cop pulled a gun and shot my
partner. It was either him or me. I don’t even remember pulling
the trigger. I took a bullet in the leg. I didn’t get very far
before the police caught me. I needed the money to get off that
fucking moon. I just wanted to get back to Earth.’
    I
could relate to that.
    All
I ever wanted was to go home.
    ‘ And
you ended up in the prisoner program?’
    ‘ The
majority of the prisoners from the ten blocks did.’
    ‘ I
went down for...’
    ‘ I
know all about it,’ interrupted Fiona.
    ‘ You
killed six men that were gang raping your mentally ill sister.’
    ‘ I-I...
think so,’ I replied.
    ‘ You
think so?’
    ‘ It’s
a long story. I don’t know what to believe any more I killed
some people and ended up in jail.’
    ‘ You
still think your sister isn’t real?’
    ‘ I
don’t know what is real any more This game fucks with your
mind.’
    ‘ Don’t
I know that,’ she said, with a heavy sigh.
    Suddenly,
an agonising scream echoed through the room. We both turned towards
the doorway that led back into the locker room. Something heavy
thudded off of a metal locker. We could hear grunting and groaning. A
loud metallic crash followed. ‘No. No. No,’ a female
voice pleaded. A heavy thud silenced her voice. I dived over to the
wall and pulled one of my bolt revolvers from its holster. Fiona
grabbed one of her sub-machine guns. We were both naked. We shared a
knowing look and she nodded. Slowly, we approached the doorway into
the locker room. The barrel of my gun was aimed directly at the door.
I was ready to put down anyone that came through the door.
    ‘ Shit,’
muttered Fiona.
    We
looked into the room.
    A
pretty young blonde woman was lying face down on the floor.
    A
pool of blood was gathered around her body.
    A
knife was protruding out the back of her skull.
    Her
skirt was hitched up over her hips, as her panties hung around her
knees.
    She
had blood under her fingernails.
    Someone
had attempted to rape and then killed this woman.
    A
second scream came from the corridor. Fiona and I headed towards the
source.

    I
stepped over the body and walked out into the corridor. The lights
were out. Only darkness awaited us. A muffled grunting sound could be
heard from the doorway to our right. Fiona moved with stealth. I
approached the doorway and pressed my back up against the wall. My
gun was brought in close to my chest, as I prepared to move in. The
naked angel of beauty was shoulder to shoulder with me.
    We
exchanged a look.
    She
nodded.
    I
moved in.
    It
was done like some kind of military operation.
    My
gun was aimed forward, but level with my chest, ready to put down
anyone that awaited us. A second body was slumped up
