He knocked his drunken father on his ass and screamed at him that he would never touch him again. Of course, his dumbshit of a sperm donor laughed and took credit for raising such a fine and strong wolf.
When Quin's father gave him a position as an Enforcer in the Pack, Levi took the opportunity to finally get away from his family. Not that they noticed, he thought back to the day four weeks after he moved out and laughed. His mother and father had come looking for him, probably because they had run out of money and needed more booze.
Levi had been working at the time. His father stumbled into the Pack headquarters and announced that he needed to report his son missing.
Levi had been stunned at their appearance and had rushed to get them out of the building. His Beta had taken over the situation, explaining that Levi had been appointed an Enforcer. He also explained that he had been assigned living quarters with the rest of the Enforcers. Levi wanted to sink into the floor when his father crowed about his son being an Enforcer. Levi wanted to point out that until that moment, his father had not known where his son was, but the embarrassment prevented him from doing it.
He took his parent's home after they stumbled around the lobby talking loudly to anyone who would listen to them. When he saw the apartment, he realized how much he had taken care of his parents over the years. The small dwelling had been a shamble.
Empty food boxes and bottles covered every surface. The smell is what got to him. Stale alcohol with a mix of vomit, made his decision much easier.
That morning the Beta asked him if he wanted to come to the United States and be an Enforcer for Quin. Levi jumped at the chance to get away from his past. He shoved a few hundred dollars in his dad's hand and with one last look left his past behind. Or so he thought. When Ruby approached him months ago, and he caught her scent, his wolf had pushed him so hard to claim her that he had almost forgotten about his past.
Almost. Levi ran fast and far from the girl. First, because she was under age, but second because she represented something. A commitment.
Now looking out the large window, Levi was kicking himself for being such an asshole.
A mate should have been a gift. He had looked at her as another responsibility. Was he strong enough to handle her and his job? That is what had made his father start drinking. He had heard the story enough.
His father had been an Enforcer of the Pack. Long hours and huge responsibility made him feel the need to blow off steam. When he was injured in a fight and had nothing to do but heal, he had turned to blowing off steam all the time. Soon, he had been drinking on the job, and when one of the females had been hurt because he had been drinking on the job instead of guarding for Rogues, he had been fired. Then he met his mother at the liquor store he frequented. Oh, how he wished he had never met her.
Of course, his father blamed everyone but himself. It did not take long for his mother to begin drinking because of the shame of being mated to a wolf who had been removed from duty. They never should have mated and had him. He wanted to tell them that many times over the years. He never got the chance or the closure that he needed. Oh well, suck it up you weenie, he thought and continued pacing.
Where the hell were they? Just when he was going to ask Darry for the tenth time what time it was, he heard the rumble of motorcycles coming down the street. Thank the God"s his Alphas had arranged for the streets to be blocked off. Quin used the construction as an excuse, but the Beta"s used the opportunity to increase security and set up cameras on the street without the local government knowing.
Levi counted more than thirty motorcycles pulling up out front. Crap, they looked like a big and bad biker gang. Which could work in their advantage, he thought. In the warehouse district, they would not look out of place. Levi found that
