boy did so.
âYou can do this. I have faith in you.â
Faith. Odd choice of words for Gage.
âJust follow me movement for movement. Iâll show you the way. You just have to follow.â
Isaac sniffed and nodded, following Gage slowly back down the rock wall.
Gage hopped to the mat and helped Isaac unharness. âYou did great.â
Isaac smiled as his mom rushed over and enveloped him in a hug.
Darcy lifted her chin with a smile as Gageâs gray eyes locked on hers.
âEveryone, five-minute water-and-bathroom break. Ben, youâre up next.â
Benâa gangly teenage boyâsmiled broadly.
Gage retrieved his water bottle and stepped off to the side with Darcy. He was wearing a sleeveless navy Under Armourshirt and a pair of khaki cargo shorts dusted with chalk. He looked goodâ vibrant, masculine, fit.
âWhatâs up?â
âI forgot to have you bring me up to speed on what Mullins said in the meeting.â
He swallowed a slug of water. âSure. Which part?â
She pulled her bottom lip into her mouth. âAll of it.â
âYou werenât paying attention?â
âI was distracted by Abby and the case.â
âRight.â He took another sip.
She frowned at the edge in his voice. âI think youâd be distracted, too, if your friend were missing.â
Gage tightened the cap back on his bottle. âYouâre right.â He glanced back at his rock-climbing group waiting for him. âBut I canât talk now.â
âOkay, after?â
âIâve got two more groups after this, and then Iâm meeting with the excursion passengers to brief them about tomorrow. You should be there. Weâre meeting at five, in the Caribou room again.â
âAll right. Iâll be there.â
He winked. âUntil then.â

âDid you find Gage?â Ted asked as she passed back through the main hall.
âYeah. All good.â
âMullins thought you should get a tour of the ship, and since Iâm not doing anything . . . I volunteered.â
âThatâs really nice of you, but I donât want to take up your free time.â
He smiled. âI insist.â
âOkay.â Itâd be good to get a firsthand tour of the inner workings of the ship.
Ted started with the main social areas, all crammed with passengersâhundreds of people. It was nearly enough to make her feel claustrophobic. âThat restaurantââhe pointed to the steakhouseââhas the best food on board.â
âThanks, Iâll remember that.â She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
He smiled, gazing down at her. âSo . . . are you and Gage an item?â
She laughed. âNo. I barely know him.â
Tedâs brows arched. âReally? You two seemed . . .â
âIrritated by each other?â
He laughed. âI was going to say chummy .â
Exactly what she feared, that theyâd appear closer than the loose association sheâd hoped to convey.
âNah, I just covered an extreme-sport event in his town.â
âWell, you must have made some impression, because he stared at you all through the meeting.â
If only it were out of attraction instead of judgment on his part. âWeâre both a bit strong willed, so we tend to butt heads.â
âStrong willed.â He smirked. âIâll remember that.â
She smiled. Ted was flirting with her, and if she werenât so worried about Abby and so distracted . . .
Ted was exactly the type of guy she could be interested inâtall, athletic, handsome, kind, interesting. But who was she trying to kid? She was head over heels for Gage.
âSo did you know Abby, Ted?â Now that she and Ted had reached a comfortable level, it was time to start digging.
âThe excursion chef?â
She nodded.
âYeah.â He took a sip of the
