look at me like Iâm getting ready to pull out a gun and go postal.
Actually, that is a plus for real. The more they think I am crazy, the more they know not to mess with me. Still, I donât want to be the one they think should be admitted into a rubber room. Iâm not crazy. Life made me this way, and I have to wonder at what point things changed for me. I used to be my biggest cheerleader. Now, I am all cheered out. I needed to find that spirit to celebrate myself, but after Ericâs visit, I would find it more difficult to look at myself as valuable at all.
Chapter 5
Phoenix
Â
My house was finally empty, with a few stragglers. I had put up everything that wasnât toted up out my house from the dinner. These hungry heifers made sure to take plates, but I couldnât blame them, because I did have an amazing spread. With her attitude still evident, Dawn questioned me on where I was getting my money to be able to afford all this food.
âNone-yah,â I told her. First it was Serena, and now her.
âFilet mignon. Cheesecake bites. What you do, rob an upscale restaurant?â Dawn asked.
âNo, I paid for it with my money,â I stressed, cutting off the chocolate fountain and toting it to my kitchen with Dawn following me.
âYou canât have money and no job, Phoenix,â Dawn said.
âAgain, youâre all up in my business. Go home to your man. Use some of those products you purchased on him,â I urged, hoping she would leave me alone. For a split second, I almost called Paige to come into the kitchen, knowing this would irritate the hell out of Dawn and shut her conversation down. As fate would have it, Paige showed up like a champ without me having to call her.
âGirl, you need some help?â she asked, looking at Dawn and rolling her eyes. Here she was, asking to help me when my very own sister didnât offer to lift a finger. All she was interested in was where my money was coming from. I couldnât lie; I was happy to see Paige, and the look of disgust on Dawnâs face was enough to make me smirk a little bit. She was busy worried about my money. She needed to be worried about where her future husband was laying his pipe.
âYou can if you want. Iâm not going to turn it down,â I said, looking at Dawn, who seemed noticeably pissed.
âIâll help some, but I have to get home and get me a piece. This poon poon ainât had a dick in me in a week,â Paige boasted.
âWhoâs your conquest tonight?â I asked, not thinking as I poured the chocolate out of the fountain into a large container.
âI canât say,â she said sarcastically.
âYou see. Thatâs the shit Iâm talking about,â Dawn blurted, pointing her finger at Paige.
âYou talking to me?â Paige asked, putting her hand on her chest.
âYeah, Iâm talking to you. Youâve been saying slick shit all night.â
âGirl, this is a fight you donât want,â Paige warned.
âOh, really?â Dawn asked.
âReally! Why you mad?â Paige asked.
âIâm mad because you a whore,â Dawn said, walking closer to Paige.
âIf you keep stepping to me like you want some, Iâm going to give it to you again,â Paige cautioned.
I thought my sister would heed the warning, but I guess the bad blood between them two was worse than I imagined.
âBitch, I will whoop your. . .â Dawn said, not finishing her sentence as she went over to Paige and swung on her. Paige retaliated by punching her back, and before I could get to them good, they were fighting. I dropped the fountain, spilling some of the chocolate all over my counter. Trying to break them up, I ended up between them. Paige was reaching over me and punching Dawn in the back of the head as she held a handful of her long hair.
âLet her go, Paige,â I yelled.
âBitch, I told you not to mess with
