get paid extremely well for it.” Chancer said as he leaned back in his chair. “I mean, what’re you gonna’ do with your powers? You going to go work for a news company’s traffic copter and do traffic reports?” He asked.
“I could do that! That would be a good and safe job you know!”
“Or you could mysteriously die, like that reporter did in Central Park this morning.” Chancer added, watching his teammate for any sign of a reaction.
“What reporter?” He asked, confused.
“The one from the news,” He said with a pause and snapping his fingers, trying to act like he didn’t know her. “Alysha Gray, from Daily Six at Seven.”
“I’ve seen her on there before. She died?” He asked, still a little confused.
“Apparently.” Chancer said. “Watched it on the news this morning. And we all know everything on TV is real, right?” He said with a little laugh. He was pretty positive Eagle-Eye knew nothing about her death. He also thought he was getting paranoid, until he leaned back in his chair to look out the giant window that made up his wall. Someone just went screaming past it, heading down.
“Whoa! What the hell was that?” He said as he jumped out of his chair and looked as far down as he could. He saw a crowd starting to gather in front of the building.
“What happened? What did I miss?” Eagle-Eye said as he moved next to Chancer and looked down toward the street. “Hey, there’s a body down there!”
Chapter 5
April 3rd, 2015 01:35 PM
News crews and pedestrians started crowding around the scene of a body lying in the street. People were pointing and shoving each other as police had shown up and set up barricades to keep them out of the crime scene. Even the protestors from the other side of the building came around and started using the crowd to their advantage, yelling things like ‘See? The Sellouts even kill their own!’ and such.
Chancer flashed his TSO badge at one of the policemen and was waived through, Eagle-Eye following fast on his heels. He saw Jeremy Owens talking to Captain Ronald Priggs, and decided to join them.
“So now you’re catching and releasing?” The Captain said to Chancer as he walked up.
“Not our doing.” Chancer told him.
“Obviously, since he’s on top of the car, and not the other way around, right?” the Captain laughed. Jeremy chuckled at the ribbing, but stopped when Chancer looked at him.
“Is this a suicide, or was he pushed?” Chancer asked as he looked over at the body.
“Don’t know yet, we’re checking security footage.” Jeremy told him.
“Too bad he landed in the street. Five more feet towards your building and you would have had jurisdiction.” the Captain said out loud.
“Lucky for you…” Chancer mumbled as he approached the corpse. The body was crumpled, as a body does when it falls from a twenty two story building. He looked at the uniform. “Is he one of yours?” he asked Jeremy as he looked up to him.
“It would seem so, though we’ll have to wait for DNA confirmation.” Jeremy told him.
Chancer looked towards the roof of the building. “No windows look to be broken, so he came from the roof?”
“We got ourselves a regular Sherlock here, boys!” the Captain said. His officers laughed.
“Why don’t you go drive a boat or something, Captain Ron.” Chancer said as he stood up and left the crime scene.
