ask you something?”
“Anything.”
“What
did we just do?”
His
warm lips trailed down her neck, kissing and nibbling. “We made love.”
Carisa giggled. “I know that but why?”
Alex
lifted his head. “It feels good, baby.”
A
delicious ripple traveled down her spine. “Yeah,” she sighed. “It does.”
“And
I like having you around,” he said. “I wanted to ask you something, too.”
Anticipation,
sweet and full, filled her. “Ask.”
“Do
you like me?”
“What
kind of question is that?” Carisa said with mock outrage. “I like you very
much, Alex.”
“And
I know you love my house.”
“It’s
enchanting,” she said. “It reminds me of something out of a fairy tale.”
“And
I like you,” Alex told her. “I want to
get to know you more, Carisa, and I’d like to give whatever this is a chance to
grow if it can.”
Deep
in her chest her heart trembled, paused in its rhythm and then started again,
slow and tentative. “I’d like to do the same thing.”
“But
I’d like more than just a date or two every week.”
“Meaning
what?”
“Would
you like to move in here with me, Carisa? Be my lady, girlfriend, significant other, whatever you want to call it?”
Carisa considered his question, weighed it,
and decided without a lot of fretting or worry.
“Yes,
Alex, I would,” she told him. “I love this place and I adore you.”
His
eyes riveted to hers. “I might be falling in love with you.”
She
scraped the whisper up from the bottom of her belly. “I feel the same way.”
“So
let’s try, okay?”
“Yes.”
They
sealed the agreement with a kiss, long and lingering. Then, without bothering to dress Carisa
walked through the house she could now call home, barefoot and naked. As she poured coffee for both of them, she
stared outside at the rioting beauty in his backyard and realized she’d come
home, maybe even to stay.
Maybe three times really is the
charm, she
thought . Three intimate nights of
lovemaking––and now, the chance for a lasting love . . . what
could be any better than this?
She
knew the answer: Alex Milton, forever.
For
now though, a chance was good enough.
