    Randolph leveled a dark frown at him. “Then it’s a good thing I don’t lose sleep at night caring what Grandmother Julia will or won’t go along with. I’m more like Dad than either one of us.” Both of them knew that their father, Ross Senior, had defied his mother when he married Adrianna Denison, a girl from what Grandmother Julia referred to as the backwoods of South Carolina, a girl without any strong family connections or ties.
