his
beautiful mother, who he worshipped. He was so full of emotion,
feeling badly about all that had happened.
"Mark, your Dad and I had an agreement,
because his work was so dangerous. He told me
everytime- everytime - he left us that, if he died, we should
carry on. He didn't want us to die with him. He made me promise,
Mark, that I would keep on living."
Tears were streaming down Mark's face.
"Honey, I know he told you kids the same
thing the day he left last year."
Mark wiped his face with his hands. He
couldn't speak. He was trying hard not to sob.
"You miss him, I know. I miss him too, very
much."
"So what about, John?"
He was still angry and protective of his
mother.
"Honey, John's not trying to take Dad's
place. No one could ever take Dad's place. John just wants to be
with me. He likes me. Is that so hard to believe?"
Mark snorted.
"Mom, no, it's not hard to believe. Plenty of
men like you."
"Well, I like John, too. In fact, I think I
love him. I don't know why you don't trust my judgment. I chose
your father, didn't I? And he turned out to be a good man. Why
would I settle for someone less than him?"
Mark put his head down. His mother had made
her point. It was not up to him to choose for her. His job was to
support her and protect her if necessary. He reached out and pulled
her into a hug, burying his face in her neck. He lifted her off the
ground, balancing on his good leg.
"I'm sorry, Mom. I miss him," he cried and
cried in her arms.

By the time John pulled up in front of her
house, he'd been up for twenty-four hours. He was still in combat
dress. He was weary, but ready for what might be coming his way
from Tricia and her son. He was not going down without a fight.
Tricia burst out the front door. He felt his
stomach flip. She looked gorgeous in worn yoga pants and a T-shirt,
her body and her beauty shone through her simple clothes. She ran
into his arms, hugging him as tightly as she could. She pressed
firmly against him. His cock hardened. She still had a powerful
affect on his body, his mind and his heart. She'd become very
important to him
Mark appeared on the front steps, his big
muscular body hanging over the crutches. This kid needs a
girl . John glared at him putting him on notice that he was back
and ready to kick his ass if he'd hurt Tricia in any way.
"John, how did you get here? I'm so happy to
see you, I missed you so much."
John was confused. He thought he was coming
home to mayhem. Tricia seemed fine and very happy to see him. Mark
came down the steps toward them. John actually felt nervous. He did
not want to have it out with Tricia's son.
Tricia was kissing him but he didn't respond.
He was on alert. His focus was on Mark. She could sense his
tension. She pulled away and realized he was staring down Mark. She
stepped aside and Mark extended his hand to John.
"Welcome home, Sergeant Major."
"Thanks Mark. How are you doing?" John eyed
him warily.
"Getting better. Mom's a good nurse."
"I'll bet."
"I'm sorry, Sergeant Major. I'm sorry for my
behavior towards you. I know I was disrespectful. I hope you can
overlook how I acted."
That was the last thing John expected Mark to
say.
"Thank you, Mark. Frankly, that's why I'm
here. I came back early because I was so worried after yesterday's
phone call."
Mark winced. John was enjoying watching Mark
squirm. He was, however, impressed with both Mark and Tricia. They
were the embodiment of the perfect Army family, respectful and
dutiful. They'd been through a lot yet they retained their dignity
and strength. John was proud of them.
Chapter 10
Mark had friends pick him up so John and
Tricia could be alone on John's first night home. When John got of
the shower, he found Tricia in bed covered up by the sheets. Some
things had not changed. He was already hard. He climbed under the
sheets and pressed his body against hers.
"So, you haven't asked me why I came home
early," he smiled a gorgeous mischievous smile.
"Well, you said
