word since Angelique walked through the French doors unannounced looking like a video vixen.
“Thank you.” She took the cigarette from me.
After she put a flame to the tip she exhaled slowly and looked at an annoyed Dallas. Her expression flashed from a look of seriousness to fake glee as she acknowledged her old nemesis’s presence.
“Hey girl, how you doin’? I love your ring. That center stone has to be at least seven carats right?” Angelique took a few measured steps to get a closer look.
Dallas’s eyes slanted like a cat. “It’s five carats.”
“Oh.” Angelique’s expression changed. “It’s still nice though. I like it. Anyway, I didn’t come here to talk about rings and things. I came to talk about business. So let’s do it.”
She took an empty seat on the couch next to one of her biggest fans…Sabrina. My ex continued to casually smoke her cigarette as I restarted the meeting after the lovely interruption.
“How’d you find out so much about Jax and his crew?” I asked her.
“Well…I know a few people I trust, so I asked them. On top of that James is one of the guys who rents my rigs sometimes. He was driving one of the car trailers that got jacked on the way to San Diego.”
“That’s wasup.” Peck nodded his approval.
“Alright, we need a plan cuz the clock is ticking. I need stats on everybody he runs with. There’s a nigga named Bishop and a chic named Rachael. I want family ties, addresses, hangouts, habits, license plates, and everything. I wanna know when that broad has her fuckin’ period each month you hear me? And I wanna know when that nigga Bishop wipes his ass and what kind of tissue he uses. I wanna know every fuckin’ thing about ‘em. Leave Jax to me.” I took a puff of my cigarette and paced the floor slowly.
I had everyone’s attention in t he room because I was serious. There was no way I was going to fail.
I continued to conduct the proceedings. “I want Peck and Sway on Bishop, Dallas and Sabrina on Rachael. Like I said, I’ll handle Jax with Angelique backin’ me up. Everybody good with that?”
Various confirmations came in at different times and in different tones from the crew, but the answer was a resounding yes. After Dallas said she was cool with it as well, she slowly rose from her chair and walked outside onto the patio.
“I need some air.” She fanned her hand toward her face making the large stone glint in the low lit room.
If Angelique did notice the light shooting off the diamond like a little star, she sure did a great job of pretending not to give a fuck. It was a deliberate move by Dallas to reaffirm the pecking order of things, but Angelique seemed unfazed by the discourteous gesture. I put the meeting on pause before the second half began, so I could talk privately with my annoyed fiancé.
I walked outside and felt the cool breeze brush across my face. I found Dallas staring out at the black ocean with her back to the house and the remaining people in it. I to ok a position next to her and placed my elbows on the wood banister for support. I decided to speak first to show my empathy for her position.
“ Look, I asked Angelique to join us. I didn’t tell you because she said no at first. I had no idea she was gonna change her mind and show up at the last minute.” I nudged her shoulder with my own as I tossed my cigarette into the darkness.
Dallas sighed. “It’s fine Tyce. I understand why you asked her. Don’t forget, I was there when we robbed the church, the gambling casino, and the bank. And Angelique was there for every last one of them. I get it. She knows what she’s doin’ so it’s fine. I jus’ needed a moment to calm down after that bogus ring comment.” Dallas squinted her eyes and made sure her voice was just above a whisper. “She know damn well my diamond ain’t no damn seven carats. The bitch said a bigger number to make me look dumb. Did you hear that? See the old Dallas woulda monkey punched
